Fibaro Relay Switches Connection without Neutral wire

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello,

I want to install a Fibaro Relay switch inside the box for light switches; however, the neutral wire is going directly to the lamps and not coming to the switches box and there is no way to pull it there and according to the wiring schematics, both fibaro switch modules need a neutral connection.

1- Is there any way to do so without getting a neutral wire?

2- I know the dimmer does not need a neutral connection, but it cannot work on energy saving lights and it is only limited to just 500W and the switches might be powering loads of 1000+ watts each, so is there any way to use the dimmer with some sort of amplifier as a work around?

I have limited electricity-related knowledge, so please I would appreciate help from any experts and/or people with experience or had similar issues and solved it.

Thanks and Regards,

You have to pull the neutral wire to the box of the switch for relay modules.

I think it isn't so hard as usually there should be an other wire box in the wall in line with the switch box near the ceiling from where the neutral goes to the light source and the live goes down to the switch box...

Actually the other box is in the ceiling and there is a fake gypsum ceiling..it is impossible to reach the box and pull the cable....

Any idea as about the dimmer with some sort of amplifier?

    thanks and regards...

    Hmm...

No option for amplifying the dimmer...

Other option could be that you place the module into the light but in that case the physical switch should be always on to give the live to the module. That isn't so nice solution.

Maybe other people from here cold give other and better options...

    You have some options -

Firstly, energy saving bulbs are compatible, but you just need to make sure they are dimmable. You can buy lots of Dimmable LED and CFL bulbs nowadays, ask your local electrical supplier for some options.

Secondly, you can place the Relay module by the light itself. Put it in a choc-box and leave it in the false ceiling. Then use the Live and Switched Live wires running to the switch as your Sx and S1 connections. (Presuming you have a drop ceiling?)

Also, remember then you can configure a dimmer as a switch by setting the following: (just for future reference.)

    Parameter 10: 0 Seconds

    Parameter 13: 98%

    Hope it helps

    Thanks for the reply...

I do not know how the ceiling is because I would be installing in several homes that are not mine so I have no idea of their design but it is mostly impossible to do any electric wiring changes as per the electrician with whom I discussed this.

Also, I was informed that the dimmer can be used for only switching on/off non-dimmable lights (LED and CFL), can you please confirm if that is possible and using which parameter changes to avoid any damage to the bulbs and flickering?

    Ahmad

As above, parameters 10 and 13 will essentially give you a switched circuit.

In the UK at least, the majority (if not all) homes have dropped ceilings so it's a safe bet here.

What about flickering of the lights? Would that happen if the load is above 25W?
