Hello All,

I presume it's OK and normal but I thought I'd ask to feel release

When not at 0% or 100% my brand new FGD211 makes little noise (like electric crackling), the lowest the worst.

Thank you!

Also if someone cares to explain, what is Sx ?

Cause I don't have a physical "wheel" to control dimming of spotlights, it's a simple on/off button. Only FGD211 will dim the lights.

So here is how I wired it:

L to Load

N to Neutral

S1 coming from on/off button

O to spotlights

S2 and Sx left unused

I don't see this exact diagram in fibaro's manual. Any issue with the cabling ?

Thank you!

The recommended wiring is right there in the manual. Since you have access to Neutral I would rewire to Fig 2. Check:

Sx is the switch common when connecting the switch potential-free.

What kind of lights do you use? Haloge, LED something else?

Are these using some kind of adapter(12/24V) or they are 230V lights?

What is the second wire coming out of the wall button ? In my setup I only have one.

    Still don't get it

    If I'm correct, 230V spotlights:

    There are four of them.

The dimmer works on a TRIAC module - basically some transistors which turn on and off the power rapidly. Depending on the setting of your dimmer, it will turn off for longer or shorter periods of time. The lower the setting, the more it will keep the lamps off. So the noise you can hear is simply electrical noise when the triacs do what they do best - dim your lights.

The Sx terminal is the common terminal for your light switch. It would normally be the phase wire going into the switch. But as this is now connected to your dimmer, the switch only functions as a input to the dimmer so Sx is supply from the dimmer to the wall switch a s1/2 are outputs coming back from the switch and provides input to the dimmer.

My impression is that the dimmer does not make the same noise level at a given load, but varies with type of load (eg type of light Source)

The noise will be a function of the consumption. So as different loads has different power consumption, the sound will be different for two different loads at similar dimmer value.

I have found that it is also depending on the transformers used (for 12V halogen). I have started to replace my old transformers in a few sections and the buzzing was reduce significantly, especially in the transformers but also in the fibaro module.

The sad part is that my old dimmers (Schneider) did not generate any noise at all, so there is definitely room for improvement in the fibaro hardware.
