iRule and Fibaro

Question

I use

for a while and it's for me the best solution to replace remote controls.

It's easy to configure, cheap and works very well.

Now that I have a Fibaro, of course the goal is to automate scenes and start with one click. I've tried the Aeon Key Fob, but than I've to multiply for each member of the family and it's limited to 8 features.

And as the Fibaro iPhone app is not an easy tool to give to kids, I've used iRule to create my remote controls to start scenes. And it works perfectly with the Fibaro API.

You can find the information there to setup the link between Fibaro and iRule :

Enjoy !

Quite a strange solution.

Software is 50 USD (Basic) /100 USD (Pro) +you have to pay more if you need more devices to control...

Hardware is well known GlobalTech modules.

And you have to write you own code for all you TVs again?

And all is cloud-based, so one day you could lost all, when they device to leave a business.

---

I prefer to use Tasker for Android, which is much more versatile + have HTTP commands as well.

---

Maybe for iOS iRule is currently OK.

Indeed you need a basic license to begin with. Only if you require to use more than 3 type of handsets then you need the Pro version. Pro version also gives some other benefits like downloading/using icons and controls that are shared by others. Its worth its price.

The Global Cache Flex device you only need if you wish to control Infrared devices. But that then allows you to control TV, A/V device and lights all from one iPad/iPhone screen. Indeed, you can easily create a macro to dim the lights when you hit the movie 'play' button. When you pause the lights go up again. It's pretty powerful.. I swipe and get the camera pictures from outside using the same app.

Cloud based yes, so what is wrong with that. of course you can save full config local on your computer as well and activate if needed. I don't see any disadvantages in this space.

Writing code, no, not needed. Controls for most device types (television etc) are in the system already. Have to admit that I had to learn a few IR codes of controls not supported with my A/V receiver. But that was easy and functionality is all build-in.

If you are not convinced but like to try the you can. I believe its 14 days for free. To get going you need a few hours I guess but no expense needed at all to get Fibaro controls in place and judge for yourselves.

Hans

Ok, I got it working. I can control my HC2 controlled lights from iRule now and also get feedback displayed in iRule. So can display light intensity graphically and textually in iPad screen together with TV controls, Blind controls and whatever. If anyone is interested I will provide some details. If you want a customized screen with own icons etc to control HC2 this is definitely a possible way to do it.

Cheers,

Hans

Can any body help me on irule integration with Fibaro HC. I need feed back of actual status for the relays displayed. Not just sending one way http command.

    Or

If not iRule is there any other customisable app where i can have good integration with Fibaro?

I need this for a hotel project.

    Hi Ash,

Since the client you use is iRule I think best to work it using the iRule forum. Below is what I posted in iRule forum some years ago...    I cannot help much further as I switched from iRule to TouchControl which can do the same feedback functionality but a lot easier to configure compared to iRule

    "

To control z-wave devices I use http get commands...

    1. For this I configured an http gateway in the iRule gateway settings with port 80 and with http method ‘Get’ selected.
    2. To switch table light to 45% light intensity I configured an icon in iRule builder and associated a command like api/callAction?deviceID=44&name=setValue&arg1=45 to it.

To obtain feedback status and display in the iRule client:

    1. Send a http get command \api\devices to the Fibaro HC2
    2. It returns a very long message that contains all device status info (using a browser you get to see all details)
    3. For each feedback needed you filter on feedback prefix "userDescription":"Spots-Garden","value":"
    and
    suffix “.”
The value in between the two "" can be displayed on the screen as Numeric feedback. For this to work you need to configure a user description for the device in the Fibaro HC2 (Spots-Garden) in this example..

    "

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Hans
