Short circuit in bypass. Bypass and dimmer are dead.

I used a Fibaro dimmer connected to a dimmable E27 10W LED (

) in parallel with a bypass. It worked fine - no flickering, dimmers well, no problems at all.

A couple of days ago I heard a little "boom" in the kitchen:

- bypass burned and got a short curcuit inside (Ohmmetr shows 0 Ohm)

- dimmer became dead and stucked in On position, it has a bad smell (burned inside)

- cucuit breaker in apartment came to Off position

- no visual damages in LED lamp

After removing the broken bypass I tried to switch the dimmer just with LED lamp. The lamp switched on but dimmer did not respond at all. So I understood that dimmer stucked in On position. I checked the connection but cables were correct. I used no neutral connection.

I am aware that Fibaro's dimmer is a Leading Edge dimmer. I have actually no idea if the lamp is a leading or trailing edge actually.

Parameters of dimmer were standard. It was only P10 that I set to 0 (to disable smooth dimming and thus 3-click problem). P20 was set to default, so it is 110. LED worked well on both P20=137 and P20=110 so I kept the default.

I would like to know what caused this problem. Since the bypass is a bit burned (see picture) it is a question of fire safety.

Was it bypass who caused the problem? Dimmer? Led lamp? Parameter?

I am ready to send a pack (bypass + dimmer + LED) for investigation. I will contact the support regarding that.

where was bypass installed - next to the lamp?

where was bypass installed - next to the lamp?

1 meter from lamp, and far from dimmer. Please take a look at the picture:

But does it really matter where the bypass is located?

It's better not connect it next to dimmer, right?

I had a new exactly the same case in other room yesterday - another bypass was shortcuted! As a result the dimmer is also broken. This dimmer worked fine for a couple of months.

As in previous case bypass was connected in parralel to IKEA dimmable lamp. Dimmer is used in no-neutral mode. I have double checked all connections - everything is OK.

After the first case I contacted support who recommended to send the dimmer by a warranty. I sent dimmer+bypass+lamp and I am hoping Fibaro will also investigate if that is a lamp that caused this problem, but not just replace the dimmer by a warranty. I really want to know the source of the problem. It is a question of fire safety.

I actually suspect 2 things - bypass and LED lamp.

    :?:Guys, I appreciate your answers!

    1. Did anybody had similar problems with bypass+LED?

    2. Anybody who used LED+bypass for a long time (>6 months)? What lamp model do you use?
