What is actually (if anything) known about this "plugin system" for 4.x?

Reason for asking is simple: I am starting to consider moving HC2->Homeseer due to lack of integration options.

Apart from statements from Fibaro employees stating that there will be a plugin system, I haven't seen any details on what this plugin system comprises. But since the rumors about 4.x are getting stronger and stronger, I can't imagine that it will take much longer before they release it.
