Samsung Smart TV and notifications

Question

Posted

Hi,

I have a new Samsung Smart TV and I can manage this via the HC2 now. But has somebody already achieved to send a notification from HC to the TV? So if somebody is arriving at my home (motion sensor) a notification is sent to my TV directly.

How do you control your TV? By ifrared for TCP?

I would really like to cotrol my Samsung Smart TV via IP. But so far I managed to configure only IR on Global Cache.

So if somebody is arriving at my home (motion sensor) a notification is sent to my TV directly.

You can of course have a scene that presses a button of your TV remote controller (via IR) on motion. So something will happen on the screen.

But I guess you mean a push notification on TV? No ideas then.

I use the virtual device that is somewhere here on the forum. (via IP)

Yes, I want to sent a message to my TV (somebody ring on my doorbell)

    tried to google, but

    1) What exactly samsung TV you have?

    2) are you ready to write your own "smart TV application" for your case?

You will have to write your own application for the TV to acheive that. Nothing included in the device, and nothing in the available additional apps support this.

Also, you would NOT be able to show a notification "while watching TV", you would only be able to do so when "your application" is running.

    Maybe it can be adjusted.

Skype APP in Samsung TV can interrupt your "watching TV" any time as far as I tested on my D series.

Sure, but it will require a "second level" of certification of the app. (Ok, at least this is the case for Panasonic and LG systems, i have no personal experience with Samsung).

basically, the reasoning is this "Ok, if you want to create an app that "takes over" the entire TV-screen, that is no real problem. But if you want your application to be able to affect how other programs work on the TV, then we will look very closely at your app, and likely charge you a huge amount of Money for i".

Also, you will need to pay a few hundred dollars to even be issued a developer ID to be able to start coding.

We live in wonderfull time. We can try to raise money from Kiskstarter for anything

If someone needs 2.000 USD for this project (1.000 for his time, 1.000 for samsung) it will be raised in 5-10 days by samsung TV users. I will send my 20 USD

And it certanly should be not app for "my z-wave home", but general app for message receiving on Samsung TV via (Jabber/HTTP/...)...

Not a bad idea actually. Above my head right now especially from a "time" perspective... Hmm. :=)

    Edit:

Done a bit of checking, and i will not personally investigate this. For starters, it is not possible to "autostart" an application. It must be launched from Smarthub upon each start of the tv, and after any other app has been used. (Ok, by hacking the TV to use SammyGO you could get around that).

Also, you need to do some clever coding of an overlay. But, the no autostart problem is a show stopper for me. The app would not be usable in real Life according to me.

    tomekm,

yes tried, but no luck. I have tried to use skype, problem there samsung only supports video calls and no messages...

    Anybody else an idea?

What I want to achieve is when I watch live TV I can get notifications. I like the XBMC setup, but I can't watch live TV as I known. I have search several android boxes but they don't support HDMI passtrough or other technology that works in the Netherlands to watch Live TV.

I tried the Alpha version and there is a plug-in to fully control your samsung smart tv.

I tried it out and works perfect.

So...just wait the 4.x version and you get it all !!
