Question

Via forced updated upgraded the HCL to 3.590

Gateway connection form the HC2 to HCL is available.

Only problem is that you can only import devices from the HCL to the HC2

This means you can't use the HCL as a backup unit for your HC2.

Fibaro is this correct?

Belive, HCL can work as stand alone or will work as slave, but not as main gateway.

zwaveindia, You are absolutely right. HCL works only as a slave device in connection with HC2 or just alone without any gateway. That means You cannot connect two HCL devices without HC2

Okay...but also HCL and HC2 combination is not optimal since you can't share devices from the HC2 with HCL

TANE, Do You understand master device and slave? HC2 will always be main unit in Your house. What for would You like to share devices from HC2 to HCL?

Sure I know the concept of master slave.

I like to have a backup system for the HC2. And this is not possible if you have the HC2 as master. Only option is to add all you devices to the HCL and share them to the HC2...and this is not what I'm looking for..

Was thinking of buying a HCL as a slave, but had a question. Can I can trigger and control all devices paired with the HCL via the HC2 so that I only ever need to use the HC2 for everything? Do the devices paired with the HCL appear just like normal devices in the HC2?

    Sunny,

I've got 2xHCL now and HC2 as a main controller. Finally I could say my network is 99.999% reliable - no delays, no issues.

One HCL managing all lighting + motion sensors (about 30 devices), second - all security stuff (door sensors, alarms, etc), HC2 is everything else.

On the HC2 every device looks like a local one (thin yellow border helps to distinguish between real local devices and remotely connected) and you can do whatever you'd like to do with it - scenes, lua, etc.

Look at the screenshot - yellow border - "connected" devices.

    shapa,

Do you also have Danfoss valves?

Any dead devices since adding HCL?

Do you have to do separate backups for HC2 and HCL?

    richo, valves managed by HC2

Yes, rarely - some dead devices on HCL also (but they could be revived from HC2 or HCL)

    All backups are separate

    Thanks for the info.

Can I ask why you thought additional HCLs would fix the network?

I have ongoing issue of slow response with commands taking minutes to function -- a lot of the time it's instantaneous however - if it takes a HCL or two...

    GlennNZ,

    Very simple to answer.

Z-wave queues are much shorter, network is not so "crowded" (1/3 devices), topology is simpler, polling time is 3x times shorter.

And yes, my issues with slow commands are gone completely. Now everything works virtually instantly and I'm happy about.

Forgot to say... "Border" color differs for different HCL's, which is very convenient - easy to understand which HCL managing this remote device.

I can also confirm that since I have the HCL and HC2 running.

Network is very stabile ± 250 devices

When you have lot Danfoss valves best is to set the walkup time a bit high >900

I have also some new ones LC13. This use is running better.

Since im about to buy the HCL

    1. can it run a small net work lets say 30 devices whitout problems then ?

    2. why do they hang is it because of the z-wave engine? because fibaro say it can handle 270 devices

    3. I don't want a system to hang and wait for minutes before something happen.

    4. do the danfoss termostat do bad things to the network so it will be more slow ?

    -Allan.

I've got 7 danfoss valve and only 1 HC2 (no slave HCL) ... my system have no delay time sending z-wave command. In total i've got 30 devices.

HCL is running fine with 80 devices since 2 weeks

When adding or removing devices HCL services will go down sometimes.

I did not notice this with the HC2

    Someone else notice this?

Guys, adding HCL as slave to another HC2 is just network adding and not combining z-wave networks right?

I cant use the devices included in the HCL to route signal to devices included in HC2?

    Thanks

"I can't use the devices" right. The idea is to make network less noisy but not more
