Hi,

I am facing problem with Fibaro Dimmer modules while connecting to control inductive motors(fans), these are making a huge noise while using a slider on the app.

Are these dimmers are made to support inductive motor loads. If yes, how can i reduce the noise.

Is there any alternative method to reduce the noise of the inductive motors.

Please help me how to figure out this issue.

They are designed for resistive loads.. Some low draw inductive devices work ok but it depends on the draw, startup currents and inductive surges etc. We generally stay away from using dimmers on any form of motor unless we have extensively tested them over a long period of time

There are guidelines to current limits for anything other than resistive... as well as advice on control limitations in the first 2 columns of the dimmer manual

Fibaro has confirmed that, Dimmers can support the inductive load(Fans) up to 70W. But we are using a Fan of load 70W, still it is making a noise when operating through slider.

If we run a Fan of 70W continuous for 15 hours will it make any damage to the connected Dimmer module.

I ran 300W ventilation motors for a couple of days and it worked fine but when dimming a loud humming was introduced on account of the way the dimmer is built. If noise isn't an issue, why not try for a while longer?

I ended up using relays and a psu with 8 different set steps to control my fans, mainly because of the noise but also because I'm a bit worried about long term effects on the fan motors.

    Dear Users,

Please notice that Dimmer operation connected to some kind of the elctric motor is also dependant of the motor itself. We recommend to set parameter 10 to 0 and 13 to at least 60%. But as I said - configuration may be dependant

    of the motor.

I have done all the advanced settings even the dimmers makes huge noise with the Fans, when i operate manually through regulator there will be no noise.

I have changed the fan connection from dimmer to a dual on/off switch to reduce the noise. Connected the fan switch to "S2" of the dual on/off and "O2" to one terminal of the Fan Regulator and other terminal of the regulator is connected to the "Fan load".

Is this the right way of connecting a inductive load to Dual on/off switch? Will this type of connection may damage the switch for a long term use.

Please help me on this connection type.
