Any advice on best way to waterproof a Fibaro Door sensor so that it can be used outside in the weather? (on gate)

Thanks

Glenn

Mount the sensor and the magnet each in a watertight casing and hope the magnet is strong enough to activate the sensor. If not use a stronger magnet.

waterproof a Fibaro Door sensor

Hi there,

I`ve installed a fibaro door sensor directly in the Gate (Mainframe).

Try to get an broken Harddisk! Inside every HDD are installed 2 very, very hard magnets! See the Photos below. My distance from the sensor to the magnet is about 2,5 cm and it works very fine. The magnet is resitant against Water, teperature and dirt. Trust me!

I use plain hermetic contactron and UBS, who put in the motor housing gates - worked without problems real Polish winter

You could try this, its a garage door sensor with put for door / window sensor that can be housed in IP 66 rated box.

Hi thanks for all the replies

Hadn't considered a stronger magnet - that may be useful down the track

What waterproof case does everyone recommend - tried a plastic bag - but excuse the English expression looks like "dogs bullocks"

A plastic bag may not be watertight. I was thinking of something like this:

Use double sided sticky tape to mount the sensor and the magnet to the inside of the case.

Can you not use Plasti Dip?

    Thanks for the advice

PlastiDip - actually looks quite good - provided you could get even coverage - and peels of if needed/change battery down the track.

The waterproof cases etc - all very large and don't look very good, plus limits the reed switch distance even with a stronger magnet.

Almost need a custom - fibaro waterproof clam-like case for this purpose?

I use an ordinary waterproof NO/NC alarm "reed switch" and connect it via cable to the In & Gnd of fibaro door/window sensor that is then housed in a watertight box somewhere else.
