Improving Remote Access Connection Time

Question

Posted

We are experiencing 20 seconds of remote access connection time and it is not fast enough for my clients. Therefore we are seeking other options to get remote access until it gets better.

I have a Belkin router and just opened an account on dny.com but I am no expert on this, can anyone help on instructions that can use port forwarding and use 3rd party server to remote access HC2? Thanks in advance!

After I opened the account, I am stuck. I emailed Fibaro and asked Is there a way I can set it up with other DNS server host such as DYN.COM ? How?

Reply is as follow, you need to forward port 80 from IP HC2 to public IP or dyndns to get remote access without fibaro servers. Then in mobie app in plase of IP HC you need to type this dyn dns address or public IP with port.

This does not help as I need detailed instructions. Other than sending endless emails, I would like to try getting some help here.

About dyn.com, Using the technology of Dynamic DNS, Remote Access allows you to remotely access your computer, DVR, webcam, camera system, and other devices using an easy to remember custom hostname. Simply install our update client to monitor your device, and your hostname will update whenever its IP address changes.

First of all your router needs to support the dynamic DNS service you're using.

Then, you need to forward an incoming port (any) to your HC2's IP address and port 80.

This is what I use:

Incoming Port: 8080 ---> Internal IP address: Internal Port: 80

Basically, any external connection over port 8080 gets routed to my HC2, port 80.

Then, set up your dynamic DNS service on your router. Be aware, it may not support it. What will happen then is, as your public IP changes, your router will inform the dynamic DNS service and it will update. So when your customer goes to mydomain.dyndns.org:8080 it will always have the correct public IP address to your router, and thus to the HC2.

An alternative is to try and get a static public IP, but most residential ISPs don't offer such services.

I hope this helps. Personally I use dynamic DNS and I'm very pleased with it.

It works! I can now get into app control in 3 seconds! Very nice!

Another problem found is that now it cannot show IP Cam stream which works before.

    Any idea?

    Thanks a lot!

You have to make portforwards to IP-cameras also. That is bit of a problem, because if you are using them via portforward on HC2, the cameras internal network ip (that Fibaro uses) does not work. Because of that you would need to use cameras with port forwarding via cameras own web-interface, not thru Fibaros interface.

Better solution would be to build VPN-connection to home network, then you could get everything working much more easily.

This is an interesting topic.. I have the same issue.. if I forward all my external ports to HC2, my CCTV which is not IP based but able to stream out to internet will not work.. how can I have it so that HC2 is able to connect as described above as well as my CCTV? I use No IP.

Infact.. just by changing my app to look at my domain name using the No IP did the trick.. and now am able to login to my App in 3-4 secs..

i got reply from Fibaro, they ask me to port forward IP Cam to the DNS Server and also HC2>IP Cam> Advance> IP Address, enter the domain with port.

    It works perfectly fine now.

Milos797, do you have an ip camera to update your dns constantly?

Port forward your fibaro hc and used your dyndns address with the port you forwarded and you can access you hc from anywhere.

    Thanks Malvin,

I have IP Camera Dlink, will this work?

And still, how do I connect fibaro android app? Because there is no option to choose any other access point then home.fibaro right?

Milos797, after you created a dns, under your hc data on your fibaro android app, input the dns under the hc ip

I have another interesting suggestion, instead of port forwarding you can define your HC2 as DMZ server (if the router supports this option). Does the same effect, works fine for me for several months now.

I've test the port forwarding and it's working fast and perfect and I manage to get all My IP cameras through port forwarding but I have any issue, I'm not able to receive any Email, or Push notification or Images taken by cameras..

    any suggestions please!
