Remote access from iPHone

Question

Helle everyone,

I am very new to Fibaro and to z-wave. I just got my HC2 two days ago and since then I have work to do every evening

One issue I have right now is that I cannot connect remotely to the HC 2 via my iphone 5s. I registered the HC2 at home.fibaro.com, entered my UN and PW in the Fibaro 4 iphone app and when I try to connect via 3g I do not get anything.

I tried from a computer and the web interfaces works fine remotely.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

It says "Connection error" it shows the HC2 disconnected and then says ”Refresh to connect" and I have two options: to refresh or to go to settings. If I press refresh it gets to the same stage.

Ok, your phone is logging into which account? go to the fibaro hc2 page on your computer and go to panel/access control panel and select the account you are using on your iphone,

click the save icon on the right and try again.

Do let me know if it works.

Ok, so on my HC2 I have in this moment 3 accounts: the admin, and account called C and an account call R.

On the webapp home.fibaro.com I registered my HC2 and i created an account for remote access. This account is the same as my C account.

On my iPhone I use C account for both remote and in house connection. The remote connection does not work. Still.. And I did the saving part logged in as admin and also logged as C.

I am quite sure that I am doing something wrong.

In fact there are two accounts: one for home.fibaro.com and the second for my fibaro box. So I think my iPHone gets logged on the fibaro website but for some reason can't hit the box and I do not understand why and how it should do it because in the app I do not know where the account for the box is specified.

first login should be the remote server account. second login will be the local account.

But how do I enter the two acounts? I have only one field for the remote server probably...

Go to configurations in your main page.

Remote Access Login & Password is for your home.fibaro first login account.

Choose HC2 is to key in your hc2 name, ip, username and password for your hc2.

My wife and my son both have an android phone, remote access ALWAYS works, never any issues.

I had an iphone and always problems connecting remotely. One day it works, another day it doens't !

Now i have an android phone and it works like a charm and much much faster then iphone.

I have a feeling that it's more iphone related then Fibaro's app.

    My "2 cents"

I completely can't get remote access by iPhone.

I can get it by browser with the same credentials, can get it working by Android, but can't get any working config through iPhone app 2.2 at iPhone 4.

What should I do fix it working?

Do you have any special signs in your login or password? Like spaces or question marks or anything else different from letters and numbers?

No. No special symbols, no wildcard. Just PLAIN PASSWORD.

It's not my 1st Fibaro install. Just can't find the problem root.

It works fine with my iphone if I don't go through the fibaro server. And yes, I have special signs in my password. For me, the issue is solved though. I just don't use the fibaro server on my I devices.

Hi, what do you use then for a distant access?

I forwarded port 80 to the IP of my fibaro HC2 and then on my iPhone I set my public address as the address of HC2.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4 (same error, same irregularity). It's totally unreliable. It's more likely that I won't be able to connect than that I will succeed.

Same account works perfectly with my MacBook, both locally and via remote access. Funnily enough, there are also no issues with my iPad. It's only iPhone that causes trouble and I guess it's rather Fibaro software than the phone itself.

PS. Forwarding port 80 from HC2 seems to be the craziest thing on earth as transmission is not encrypted at all (including passwords). I wouldn't risk exposing my home control system that way if I were you. While remote access provided by Fibaro is far from being perfect, it's still way more secure than what you just did. Port forwarding would be quite fine if Fibaro would implement basic security (HTTPS with ability to add own certificate) in HC2. I don't really get it why it's not implemented yet as it's not a rocket science, especially given the fact that HC2 system software is entirely based on standard open source components that have such functionality available out of the box.

About 80 % of all remote-access-applications worldwide work in an un-encrypted matter without any problems whatsoever. I wouldn't worry too much about that unless you are a bank or something like that AND you have a good password that you change regularly.

There are far more less time-consuming and more (financially) rewarding activities for hackers then to try to switch on or off the lights in your bathroom, trust me.

wienog, I've seen enough personal computers of my friends "hacked" by script kiddies just for fun to treat your arguments seriously. I don't even want to mention home devices such as publicly available private IP cameras.

It's enough if you use any public, unencrypted hot-spot to log-in to your HC2 directly and your sophisticated password becomes useless when sent in HTTP as an easily extractable free text. There are more people listening than you probably imagine. Sooner or later someone will get curious what is that service that you try to log-in to or someone will publish "Fibaro script" on hacking forums and things will be less fun.

When you control key elements of your home and even integrate your automation system with alarm, things become serious. Or will become after the first time someone will virtually knock to your door at night
