What is the lowest LUX reading that Fibaro Motion Eye gives?

Recommended Posts

Odd one maybe but I'm doing various tests and noted, as I'm having issues with them, that in dead of night I'm getting different readings around the house?!

What is the lowest it should be no matter what?

I seem to be getting 128 but then odd on others. So I need to know what it should be so that I can perhaps reset other sensors etc.

Kind regards

Dave

dw89, measurements of light can vary in different zones. The lowest value is of course 0, when there is no light at all.

So does 128 sound right for moonlight then?

It just seems odd as it looks pretty black with no lights on....I'm just surprised its not lower that's all.

dw89, the only way to ensure that these measures are inappropriate is to compare them with other light sensor.

That;s what I don't get...I've got x9 Fibaro eye sensors and they're all reading different levels....even some in same room (large open plan one) so I'm not really getting the distinctly different values that's all.

128 is far more than moonlight... The clearest moonlit evening will be less than 5 Lux outdoors (closer to 1), even less indoor. Normal limit for when you would feel you need to turn on lights is between 50 and 100 lux.

So what's going on then?! Are these lux sensors working or not? I've never had readings as low as that at 3am with all the lights off!!

Apart from that how can I tell a scene that it's actually 'night'? Is there an os. or fibaro. function or something?

    Thanks

I use a threshold of 50 lux in most rooms of the house for switching on lights. That seems like a pretty good value.

If your sensors say 128 in the dead of night, I'd say they are off... But the light sensor in the fibaro motion detectors are known for being very focused, so if it is directed towards a light or something it will meassure only that point instead of most detectors which will be more diffused.

Wikipedia has a good article on lux to compare your readings to usual values:

100 lux compares to a dark overcast day.

Take into consideration a 5hr standard wake time and 200lux change threshold in theory if you installed them all at a specific time of day you may actually NEVER get to see 0lux!

Just a thought... i set mine to change every 900secs regardless of light change! works well and not to bad on battery either!

In fact take that back you would eventually

Im totally confused guys. Take x2 sensors:

X1 Fibaro eye (installed few weeks ago in sunshine).

X1 Aeon multi (installed 2-3 days ago in bright sunshine).

Aeon started at 1000 and, last night (2am) was reading 1-3 lux at night. Seems ok

Fibaro, two nights ago, at 166 (same time). Then, last night, was at about 70?! Theyre all reading something different and theyre all in pitch black. WTF?

For example, three are in different parts of same room but theyre all reading different. No lights on at all....just blackness. I cant see how I can regularly define 'night' with it being so different every day.

    Dave:(

I've done a test of my aeons against a lux meter used in photography, and that is reading pretty accurate (within 10-15%). I haven't got any fibaro MS yet so I can't check those... And judging by all the posts on here about issues with them (no cabled power supply, changes into temp. Sensor, way off readings, slow light update) I might never get any which is a pitty as they look quite a bit better than the Aeons I have now. But as the only issue I've had with the Aeons is difficult pairing, I might just keep to those.

I have aeon and fibaro and both work well... Fibaro seem very accurate to me... Last night for example dropping 1lux between twilight and nighttime then my porch led strips illuminated

    @dw

What is your setting on parameter 40?

im not sure what the default setting is but i changed that number to a lower setting (20)

what i would get is that the lux change woudnt be noticed under the lux lvl of i think 200 change.

So the last reading could be 204 while it would be 6 lux actually because of the setting paratmeter 40.

Once i set it to report lux changes lower than 200 it works fine, and as stated above the lux levels are almost reported as a beam so it very important to where you point the sensor.

And for your first question yes i get to 1 or 0 lux when setting the parameters correctly

change parameter 40 to 1 and see almost instant changes, though it would shorten battery life alot setting it so low

just fyi on my personal config

big bright room with no curtains at 12:00 daytime = >4000 lux

medium sized room with curtains that allow light at 12:00 = 71 lux

big bright room with no curtains at 24:00 with a bit of moonshine = 4-6 lux

medium sized room with curtains that allow light at 24:00 = 0 lux

to properly configure the parameter 40 i checked the lux levels for a sensor during 48 hours (min/max) and based parameter 40 based on value from this 48 hour test period.

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the replies.

Interested in last post, thanks. My param 40 is set to 200lux. I think this is default so I didn't touch it. I changed the following:

    24 to 1

    42 to 0

    60 to 1c

    62 to 1800

    64 to 0

Basically all I want is good battery life i.e. not many reports (say one every half an hour/hour) and I want to get these for a) temp and b) lux 'and to get it right!' When I look in the events panel there's hundreds of flippin events and I'm sure it's not good for battery life or the system as a whole when you have lots of devices.

    Any help appreciated

PS DeanParry....the Aeon seems good so far...not had it as long as the Fibaros but not had any issues with it compared to them.

You need to change parameter 42 to 1800 (30 min) or 3600 (1 hour).

I think,it is too much, mine is set to 480, otherwise you sit in the dark too long
