Is there a stable Firmware ?

Question

Hi all, I have an HC2 on order but after reading the forums for awhile I am not sure it is a good idea anymore.

I currently use a Vera lite, not too many switches/sensors but am looking to upgrade and expand and thought Fibaro would be the next step for my system.

So "is " there a "Stable" version that works.. ?

Thanks

I don't think so.. On this forum a lot of people are having problems with the firmware.. Everyone is waiting for v4. I currently have no controller, but I'm thinking about buying a Vera lite

That really depends on your needs.

The basic functionality is there, about what you read most is that some of these functionalities have small things that take a quite a while before they are recognized and resolved by Fibaro.

On the other hand, many features exist in the system and they try to make sure that every feature they do add, is added well into the whole system. and that takes time.

What you will miss compared to your vera box is that not all devices such as locks and house energy measrement devices are supported in the current stable firmware. In Vera you could add this yourself or by a plugin, this is not possible in the HC.

What is it that you are looking for in the HC compared to the Vera?

I do have to say that dispite the fact that it sometimes takes a while with Fibaro, when they take care of something they try to do it right so that it works within the whole system and indeed 4.x will deliver many features and bug fixes that people have been waiting for. Just don't expect it within 4 month.

Some of the advertised functionality is not available in the current "stable" release but if that is not a problem then 3.591Beta is just fine in my opinion. I started on 3.548 and have not had anything that has even remotely motivated me to reevaluate my HC2. I simply very happy with it but that's not to say that there isn't any room for improvement.

I'm currently on 3.591beta and this is stable in my opinion. Have about 50 devices throughout the house and they basically work flawless. Server uptime by now is 130 days or something and that was because I installed the update. I have it running for about a year now, only once had an issue with the HC2 due to a powerline having been cut.

My main issue with Fibaro is that they advertise all sorts of panels (alarm, heating, etc), but in essence you have to do all the LUA yourself from scratch in order to make those things work as advertised. In the mean time Fibaro is working on all kinds of new features that are nice, while ignoring the issues on what in my opinion is just the basic functionality for any good consumer-grade home automation system.

So yes, HC2 can work stable and you should not really have to worry about that in my opinion. You'll have to think about what is important for you however, Fibaro is very good at selling a concept, but you'll have to do lots of coding to get the most out of it.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I thought it was time for an upgrade as I want to start adding more devices.

My needs are fairly simple at the moment basic rules should be fine but later on as the system grows I would like something a bit more powerful than a VeraLite.

Sounds like the 3.591 Beta should do what I need until the mythical 4.0 comes out...

Th biggest issue o fall "stable" version is the broken Z-Wave engine which fails if you have too much data sent over it. This IS a serious issue and Fibaro fixes it in 4.0 (and the alphas, but they are useless).

However compared to Vera Lite, where I come from it is way more stable. Vera crashed daily because it didn't have enough memory and the user interface is terribly slow.

In the long run Fibaro is a good system but I understand everyone hesitating after reading the forum. There are major issues to be honest but it depends on your configuration as well.

Configuration of devices and I think very much depending on your rules too. I suspect that some people have rules that causes the system to use too much memory or cpu cycles.

    Not at all. Yet.

But latest beta is more or less stable (it means it can work for a few weeks without major problems, which is "great achievement" for Fibaro).
