Tired of dead nodes and false alarms

Question

Posted

I am getting tired of dead nodes, somewhere out of the blue i get 5-6 dead nodes every day, and still have false alarms on smoke sensors en flood sensors, i tried normal versions and beta version, but the problems didn't solve

When is Fibaro releases a stable version, they are doing nothing, al least we don't see or hear anything, only marketing who tells how good there system is, but i don't think so.

Anyone who share this with me, or know a solution?

Did You Your system alone? Or was there a special Fibaro man? Where do You have Your HC2? How many electrical devices di You have? How big is Your flat/home? There is so many questions to ask. I always say that Fibaro or any other smart home system is not easy enough to make it run stable myself...

False alarms on the flood sensors is one of the many issues I'm having (

) and we are not alone. Fibaro doesn't seem to care much except once in a while when they say we have to continue waiting for the next stable release. As you can see in the forums many people have already been running out of patience while waiting for important bug fixes, and left HC2 for other solutions.

When the next stable release is taking so long that the customers get tired of waiting, it's a clear sign that the priorities are wrong. Unfortunately this is very common in the software business. It's of course much more fun to work on "the next perfect release that will fix everything" instead of patching old code.

I'm still keeping my hopes up for some reason but it sure isn't fun when you paid such a large amount of money.

Flood sensor is the problematic one. Dead nodes sometimes happened but could be tackled by placing the switch in different place or put a 'connecting switch' in between.

    Hi All,

I have 37 nodes, and some nodes are 2-3 meters away from the HC2, can't believe the dead-nodes is a distance problem.

I am trying Vera now, and when that is stable i will make the switch. i like the graphics of Fibaro, but the unstable software is killing them.

    rdeswart,

I am interested in your Vera switch. Do you like it? I see a lot of updates in the last weeks. I am also on the edge to sell my HC2, because of the dead nodes(have 90 nodes, with 3 till 7 dead nodes every day) and sick of waiting for version 4 with new functionalities.

    Hi Guys,

It may or may not help you (as I dont know layout of ur houses) but I have 30-40 units, a three floor concrete house and no dead nodes at all.

How did I achieve this? Nothing special (I had many to start off with), I simply made sure that the HC2 was tried in different places (its now in the middle of the middle floor) and that I have at least a few constantly live 240v units on each floor to transmit mesh connections.

Move things around, see if it helps. It did for me and theoretically I have the worst situation house-construction wise!

    KR, Dave

Ps cant help with stability issues... I have them too at times!

I have made the switch to VERA. It's in my house more stable at the moment(and more plugins). Maybe when version 4.x is coming I will switch back. Else good luck with the HC2....

I came from Homeseer 2, but leave it because of crappy layout.

Anyone tried zwave repeater or different antenna?

the dead nodes are not a distance problem.

if the dead nodes are 2 meters away from youre hc2, a repeater will not help

Dead nodes can be a distance or materials used in building related issue, since Z-wave is mesh network you do not need any special repeaters, just add any mains-powered device in between. But in most cases it is a matter of configuration. You can always contact our support if you want to improve the way your system works.

Please Fibaro stop this B*ll Sh*t pointing at the user by mentioning configuration as an issue and just putting more device to extend the mesh network will fix the problem.

You have got a problem with the HC2 software which is causing Dead Nodes!! When are you going to fix that. Oh yeah 4.0 will do it. Sure......If you keep ignoring all which is mentioned in this forum it will never be fixend. Trust me.

Next to the instabile HC2 your "hardware" is causing dead nodes. After taking off the power in my house three devices turned up as Dead Nodes. And secondly I can't control the devices (2x switch 1.4 and a dimmer 1.4) from my local wall switch. Why??? After taking power on and off the device will work for two days and than again dead nodes and no local control possible.

So recap; Dead Nodes are caused by Instable HC2 and the hardware from Fibaro.

The problem is. There is no other alternative for Fibaro. But when it will arrivé, and I know that it will come, people will leave fibaro as soon as they can. Why? Fibaro is ignoring their customers.

The culture of fibaro needs to change otherwise they will not survive!!

"just add any mains-powered device in between"

    HCL2 -- 30 centimeters -- TWO roller|shutter modules.

Every 3-4 days one or both modules went "dead node"

    Guys,

Im the first to say things arent always great ie motion sensors!! However Im not sure if anyone read my post? Maybe itdoesnt fit in with your feelings towards Fibaro so you ignore?

Anyway I was just trying to help. My house is made of concrete (walls/floors/ceilings ) and very thick at that (to 400mm) but Ive got no dead nodes at all (greater than 30 separate devices). I did have about five until i moved the HC2 to the middle of the house (3 floors).

So all im saying is dont be too quick to judge on this one. Fibaro may not always be 100% forthcoming but if I can have no dead nodes in a three floor 350m2 concrete house then shouldnt others be able to do the same?

    Just a thought.

    KR, Dave;)

Ps Im not judging all im saying is either im a complete fluke or maybe theres something else thats causing your issues somehow ?

    dw89,

Because you have not got any problems Fibaro is ok. Mmm, you should follow this forum. Why are there so many complaints.

Why do we have so many discussions of leaving Fibaro. For fun?? Sure......

Fibaro has serious problems with hardware and software.

But you seem to know how to setup a fibaro system with no problems. Maybe you can help me with my fibaro switch which only works for two days. And it is just a module which is connected to basic lamp with a wall switch. Have got this problem with 3 fibaro switches. Alsa maybe you can help me with my RGBW module which is connected to 3 0-10v sensors. Its is measuring something but sure not the right values.

Oh and maybe you know why my Fibaro Ipad App is so slow it is not usable. And I can go on and on and on.

Good luck with your system. I will leave as soon as another betters system comes by. And it will.

    Dino,

Sarcasm never helps anyone and you just let yourself down by talking to me like that for no apparent reason.

I answered a specific question about dead nodes, tried to give some advice (because I believe it can be solved or made better with trial and error) and made it clear too that I also have 'issues' with aspects of the system (like everyone else). You seemed to have missed most of that because you are upset about other things.

I feel sorry for you but being rude isn't going to help you is it?

    KR, Dave

Dino, there are many installations that work without problems, of course in some instances there may be professional help needed. If you want to make sure that situation you described is not a matter of configuration, please contact our support. As far as I remember I asked you for contact in other topic few times, but without response.

J.nowacki. Let me answer your question with a very easy answer:

When are you going to reply to my questions? See threads below. I would like to keep it open so many others will not make the same mistakes. Beceause you do not seem to onderstaand that many people have invested so much time (I will not even mention money) in your products which function in almost all cases (hardware and software) for 50% and certainly not as shown in your marketing material.

By the way I have Fibaro products since 1-1-2012. So I can say I have 2,5 year experience with your products and all the rest. In my humble opinion and many hours with your system I became a professional.

This week I have to send my first order from 2012 back voor RMA. For me besides all the other problems the hardware is falling out after 2,5 years. So this week for me the reliabilty and trust in safety of hardware became an issue for me. Already read about problems with melted dimmers, relais which could hang. Wall plugs which the Swedish government has abandoned. Smoke detectors which wouldn't react on fire.

I'm also frustrated for spending one whole year in three houses building systems with over 200 switches. Finally found out that the system is not stable, device panel not showing the correct status, system hang up when some battery device included. I have to re-include 160 switches. Still now the system is not stable.
