For those who loudly complain that you do not get your devices to work after upgrading to latest beta version, have you read the second line in the first post from A.Socha regarding the new beta?

Please login or register to see this code.

Install the beta, test your device, scenes, virtual device. Report bugs to bugzilla.fibaro.com then go back to your previous stable installation. It's simple

Be nice and happy and we all get what we want in the end, a good stable update for V4.

Keep up the good work Fibaro Team!

Over and out

+1 for Jonny. Fibaro should get feedback that is what they ask for and need when they release a beta, but the feedback should reflect the setting.

Too many of us may be too eager and frustrated about the long waiting time for "V4" and jump on the beta...

Don't think I'm completely with u guys on this one. I was happily using beta 3.591. I asked for a key to be able to update to Alpha. In Alpha there are a lot of bugs. A lot of the bugs, if not all, that were mentioned in the alpha 3.906 thread are still in Beta 3.907. An Alpha product can not be the same product as a beta imo. My guess is that Fibaro is really eager to let people get a taste of the plugins and other new features they are cooking up (and they should, because it tastes yummy) but my opinion is that if you have Alpha and Beta that they released the beta a few bugs too fast and were better off ironing those out first.

and there are running more beta's also 4.xxx beta versions

i am convinced that a beta should be better than alpha

alpha 3.906 works fine for me (a few bugs) beta versions is useless

and ofcourse i choose to test alpha or beta, but this beta version far from a normal test version.....

And for me 3.906 was to buggy to run but 3.907 is fine. I'm now running 3.907 in production without major issues. I think the term is YMMV.

I guess you got it straight. Yes, Your Milage May Vary. A product not finished will have issues. Conditions vary so will the manifistation of issues...

Bottom line, know what you are signing on to when installing an alpha or a beta - and respond accordingly when posting feedback.

I do not agree on this one. From page 10 of the latest beta-topic it was evident that this beta provided big problems to many users. Problems that users should not experience in beta-testing for a device as critical as a Z-wave controller. This can happen, but Fibaro should have had the balls to admit their mistake and withdraw the beta. But so far, they have not done so, or even admitted that this wasn't their best piece of work.

Furthermore feedback from the alpha-stage does not seem to have been incorporated in the beta release, like the malfunction of the Danfoss units, the numerous issues with disappearing devices and broken LUA-code. I think we can all agree these are issues that should have made Fibaro release another alpha before even thinking about releasing a beta. Together with non-existant release notes, they made us believe these issues would have been fixed, or at least that Fibaro would be under the assumption that they would be fixed.

How do you suggest to test this version in a real world environment if essential things simply don't work?

It's true to expect a beta to be unstable but the only "stable" version for their new sensors is a BETA too.

Most people will update if there is a red button to do so.

I, on the contrary, see that 100s of things have been adressed and I would NEVER expect EVERY bug to be fixed in the release following the previous and this probably usually don't happen anywhere. Bugs are fixed in the order of priorities, made by Fibaro and not end users, and may well live into releases way after official release. This is basic development and if I may rethorically use the authority argument: In every single project, software and company I have worked with in the last 25 years the reality has been exactly what it is here i.e. the expected and normal nature of a beta release.

The beta is for user testing and whoever is daft or brave enough to use it in production should understand what this means. I am not brave but I use it in production anyway and thus probably fall under category one of users.

"Beta version is designed for user testing."

Such a rubbish.

They never released any (stable enough) version. Last "stable" has a lot of serious issues.

They didn't fixed most of them but started to develop new software branch.

They released it as a beta but it's not even pre-alpha stage.

They are selling hardware with promoted features which (in fact) are not working with a "stable" release (like smoke sensors).

Customers are waiting for years already to get something functional and stable.

The only part of team which is working properly is a marketing department.

1. 3.590 is apparently for most users fairly stable. Push it and you are right.

2. You are right anyway, hence...

3. You are right, and as they get more "mainstream" customers that will be the make it or break it for Fibaro - and yes they are cathing more and more customers thanks to their marketing Department.

And that is EXACTLY what we have been doing. The result is that the beta is even worse than the so called stable version. And that's while we're telling it like it is. If Fibaro wants us to test a broken version, we're going to report it as being broken. Pure logic.

Now, this would normally not be a problem for a normal software. Just revert to the stable version, right? Now here is where your post is a big smack in the face for many suffering users. You simply don't get it, do you? We have paid a LOT of money for our systems, and our bug reports have been completely ignored for a long time. We tried the beta hoping to help Fibaro finally nail out the remaining of those bugs. But all we got was a version that pretty much destroyed the remains of our systems. Do we not have the right to complain?

Should we be silent and continue to accept the standard "it will be fixed in the next stable version" answer for a couple of more years?

Its the making you wait then releasing * that annoys us!

Release * quick and bug fix slow!

Interesting as I have been a bit more lucky or just have got used to what to do and not do on HC2.

I have 95% of my system working (100 nodes 250+ devices). No I have not tested all the possible parameters but all of the ones I use work.

No set-point control on thermostats for example is a bit of a miss. Strangely other than that the Horstmann HRT4 controls work better than they have ever before!!

Yes I lost my custom icons and yes I have to manually start my scenes and LUA is not considering daylight saving but it is a good Beta by any standards.

Yes there are some blockers but possibly some of you guys would be better to ask for assistance from other forum members if you want to get it up and running?

I agree that this release is severely flawed as a beta, however, I've got it patched and hobbled together to a state where it's not broken. I had all hells delight previously as I upgraded the short cut route rather than going through the recover .... through to beta scenario, so I restared from fresh and I lost everything in the process, but now, I'm kinda cool with it after doing it all the right way. I can only hope that the next couple of releases are simple upgrades, and improve functionality, if they don't I'll change my system to something else in the interim.

Having said that, I'm also very lucky that my house isn't finished being built so my setup is basically a bit of a "test bench" through the existing part of the house which I think all systems need to be if you are participating in a beta program.

For those that have bought into this system, and spent the big dollars like the rest of us, expecting the marketing hype to be real world .. there's a whole lot of valid and understandable pain and I'm sure you're rightly very pi$$ed off, but they will eventually pick up their game, there has to be a lot of lost sales due to this forum, and I'm sure they would want to get to a point where there is nothing but praise on the board instead of nothing but pain.

cheers,

al.
