Problem adding z-wave device

DarinBradfield

Question

Good day. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who can please help me. I just starting installing dimmers in my house. Put the first one in, clicked button on back 3 times and it added to the z-wave network without any problems. Quick and Easy.

Then i saw there was a update for my HC 2. Did the update and it crashed. When i rebooted it booted in recovery mode and i recovered successfully and then did all the updates again. Currently on 3.9.0.7. now not for the life of me can i get a dimmer to connect the z-wave network.

I have reinstalled, tried the first version, updated again, tried that one, ect. reset, left power off, taken unit out even tried another unit. Also tried adding a sensor. But i can get any wave device to connect. Also tried resetting z-wave network.

But i just can't get a dimmer or relay to be added to my HC2. anyone have any other ideas because right now i am thinking about taking a hammer to my HC2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kind Regards

Darin Bradfield

DarinBradfield, device that was previously added to any HC has some data written to it. Deleting device clears that memory and allows you to make a clean inclusion of the new device. Proper deleting should be done from "Add or remove device" menu, not from the main site.

I think people are misunderstanding the issue. There are no devices on the HC2, so you naturally can't delete something that isn't there.

What is needed is a way to wipe the device before trying to include it again as the original install was lost and therefore also, all the devices stored on the HC2.

Exactly and that was what was suggested. Click "Delete device" and activate this for the module in question and it will be wiped and ready for inclusion in the, possibly new, system. This regardless of wether it is there or not. Some modules can also be factory reset by themselves but doing from the HC2 is usually easier. Or at least this is the way I understand it and have done it in the past.

But you still fail to realize the point: the device list was lost in an attempt to recover the HC2. So there is nothing to delete. The module itself still believe it is connected to some network, but that network doesn't exist. As the module DOES NOT EXIST on the HC2, how should you possibly be able to delete it?! The HC2 has no knowledge that this device ever existed, so how should you be able to remove it, thus wiping the modules memory?!

when i changed from Vera to HC2 i had to use the fibaro HC2 to delete the devices to enable me to then add them to the HC2

Dalle1985, if you enter the "Add or remove device" menu you will have option to delete device. Then HC enters deleting mode and waits for signal from module. It does not matter if module is currently added or not, when contact takes place the memory of device is being cleared.

Oh, I got that and I explained, perhaps not clearly enough, that regardless wether the module is there or not it is the process of starting the delete process on the HC then pressing the corresponding button on the device that wipes it clean and ready to be included in any system. So you will not delete it from the HC but you will only delete the configuration from the module. Without anything happening to the HC itself or it's configuration. Like I said, that may be my misunderstanding but it seems to have worked that way for me in the past. It is exactly what you call " a way to wipe the device before trying to include it again" in fact.

Edit: At the same time as I posted it was confirmed by Fibaro in the reply above. Thanks.

Ahh... Okay... I'm the slow one

Please login or register to see this image.

/emoticons/default_icon_mrgreen.gif" alt="" /> so simply pressing the connect button on a module while the hc2 is in delete mode will wipe it's memory... Got it!

yess, zwave is paired (learned) to a controller.

when the controller is gone, you can "free" the module with every controller

so, when you buy secondhand zwave that is paired to another controller, you can still use it on yours

  • Hey chaps. Thank you for all the help.

The delete device thing worked. I had tried it all before, but it seems that i was in to much of a hurry. I ended up setting the timer for about 100 seconds. For some reason it took a really long time to find it and delete it.

addition again was nice and quick.

    thanks again.
