Hi.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any bad experiences with the fibaro products? I asked due to having read the following posts...

Please login or register to see this link.

Which seem to imply there may well be some issues with some of the products? I am aware of the 'fake' wall plug report and fibaro's response to it (as a sticky on her), however this seems to imply it may be wider than just the wall plug... Hence my question.

Finally while my hc2 is running it does seem to significantly heat up and becomes very warm to the touch. I just find that slightly concerning as it will be running 24/7.

Thanks

S.

So far so good for me.

How many modules do you have?

Liquidchild, Home Center casing is part of passive cooling system, it is normal for it to get warm. Just make sure it is not in closed cabinet and nothing is placed on it and you will be okay. All our devices meet all necessary safety standards, listed in manual of each component.

Well, the casing has no hardware connection to the motherboard, and when it get's hot outside, say +30 degrees Celsius, then HC2 starts to "un-behave" and needs active cooling. Now the mini ITX motherboard for the last version of HC2 is unfortunately turned 90 degrees wrong, so even if you open the ends of the HC2 box, the airflow that is needed for cooling is not optimized correctly.

Sorry Fibaro, but You have an incorrect design in the cooling, and for sure it is not enough during hot summer days/nights.

Could you be kind enough to 1: Tell us what is the maximum reccomended ambient temperature? 2: Is there a way to monitor / get a warning from the HC2 if it gets to warm?

Thanks,

Malvins: I have around 10 components, just in the process of getting them installed.

J.now: I am just slightly concerned as the unit sits in a server cabinet with lots of electrical equipment still seems to significantly heat. I am just very uncomfortable with this as it seems to make it more of a hazard - why is cooling not done like many other pieces of equipment using a fan etc., it's not often that equipment like this would sit on its own in a well ventilated space?!

    1152: I secind these questions!

Liquidchild, Yes, my hc2 is on 24/7 and the casing is too warm for comfort.

Liquidchild, if you have placed the unit inside a rack or equipment cabinet some active cooling may be necessary, but it depends on the BTU output of all the other equipment combined and what cooling method you are using.

I would highly recommend looking at the following white paper from a well know rack manufacturer on best thermal management practices:

Since the HC2 is not specifically designed with rack mounting in mind, some additional active cooling may be necessary. Generally the unit is designed to just be placed on a table top next to ones boradband router, and it is quite normal for it to get warm.

Personally, I can tell you that at home my HC2 sits in a 20U rack with various other equipment (switches, video sources, matrix switchers etc) and I have had no problems with heat. The fans on the rack (2x 2U panels) idle most of the time and speed up when needed.

    I hope this helps.
