Z Wave Routing

Question

Posted

Dear All,

Please bear with me as I really need to fully understand how the routing etc. works so I can fully understand how I should include and position modules.

Can someone, in plain speak, explain exactly how the Z Wave routing works as I am having real problems with one Aeon Multi-sensor fitted in an out-building some 30m from my HC2, although there are 2 powered modules between the sensor and the HC2, with one being very close to the sensor.

Currently I have added the sensor whilst in my living room as it is not seen by the HC2 if I try to add it in the final position. After configuring the device needs to wake up, which I have tried both in the living room and in the final location. However, I don't understand when the actual decision on which route the Z Wave path will take happens.

I have problems with communications with this module only, and wonder when I should wake up the device, and how does it then route, as I don't seem to be easily able to wake in the final position.

I hope this makes sense as I just can't understand the Z Wave routing, on whether it is fixed,a and at what point, or whether it is dynamic, but at what point does this take place i.e. is it during each attempt to communicate or only during adding or waking up?

I hope you can help as I'm totally puzzled.

Many thanks

Ray

palomaray, you should add and wake-up device in direct neighborhood of controller. Then move device to destination spot and wake it up again. It will check if controller is available. If so it will communicate directly, if not, it will try to find controller by checking mesh network. So its routing table will be changed. Device will try to reach controller with help of routing devices as result of every communication failure.
