Dear All,

Just cabling my house for several new LED strips. I plan momentary switches, RGBW LED strips, preferably 24V ones. I plan to put the power supply and the Fibaro RGBW module close to the strips, using however the witches will be 5-8 meters away, so voltage drop would occur - not sure how significant it is, but some internet sources suggests a 10 mm2 wire in case of 144W / 12V (which is 12A) in case of the 7-8 m distance. I do not have that pig pipe in the wall.

According to RGBW module manual, switches needs to be connected to L1, L2... See the picture below.

I was wondering if the load will run through the switches, or the switches will provide only signaling info to the module and the load will run from the PSU, through the RGBW module, to the LED strips? If signaling only, I need just a thin cable between the switches and the RGBW module. If the load is flawing through the switches, I'd need a bigger.

You only need minimum cables to the switch, the current doesn't go through the swith.

For cabling use 1,5mm2 cable to the + of the led stripe.

For rgbw channels:

Maximum current for single channel using 12 is 144/4 = 36w = 3A.

With 24v you get HALF that so maximum 1.5A per channel.

So you never need large cables, maximum current is so low.

And this is on 5m stripes.

So only 5m/1,5A = 0,3A per meter led stripe.

Remember this is on rgbw stripes with 4 channels.

My tip is always use 24V for minimizing voltage drop.

And always keep low voltages cables short.

A 5m 12v rgbw stripe will almost always differ in color the last meter.
