Dead nodes

Question

Posted

Hi there,

So far, my only problems with HC2 were iPad software bug and the famous dead nodes every now and then. I seem to have found the cause for the dead nodes, at least in my case. They seem to be related to power outages, something we have somewhat frequently in winter time (it's a country side location) due to storms.

I've setup a camera with pan and tilt that resets to the home position when power fails, so I now know when it happens. I would say that 90% of the time the power fails, I have dead nodes. I have very rarely dead nodes outside this scenario. The entire summer I probably had them once or twice.

I have an ups on the HC2 that lasts at least 20 minutes, so now the question is how long are the blackouts lasting, something I still don't have a way of knowing yet. It would be interesting to understand if the dead nodes are being caused by the HC2 not being able to contact them over the 20 minutes or so, or if the HC2 loses contact permanently after the power loss and subsequent startup process of both the HC2 and the nodes themselves.

Has anyone seen such a behavior on your installation?

Rui

I get dead nodes as well where I disconnect power. I have a UBS connected to my UPS which has open collector outputs with which I monitor two status indicators for mains out and low battery. Different actions are taken depending on what is detected. I can see from the HC2 log when and what has happened. Check your UPS to see if you have that kind of port (many APC, Eaton and others have them).

buy a clock with hands, so when power goes off clock stops, power on, clock will run again

the difference in time is the time how long power was down

rtripa, you can also use relay with mains-powered coil and an UBS that will test its state. Then start a scene when UBS detects change of state and start timer. Stop it when power is back and store computed time in a global variable.
