I use a Wall Plug with my Isomac Venus espresso machine. It's been fine quite long, but today I noticed that the wall plug doesn't turn completely off. There's a faint light on the machine when the plug is off. I had to remove the plug to get the light off.

Is it dangerous that the plug is slightly on when it's supposed to be off?

Should I return it?

Turning the plug didn't make any difference.

This happened again today. It only seems to happen after the machine has been running for a while. When I turn it off, there's a faint glow on the power lamp. It doesn't go away until I remove the plug.

I tried measuring with a volt meter, and I couldn't read any voltage when the power was cut.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

    Faulty unit? Return it.

Possibly an isolation problem... in any one of the components. Leakage current through earth... You know an electrician with a "megger"?

turning the led plug 180 degrees in the wall plug did solve my problem

Yes, that makes sense if you use Live + Neutral (+ earth). In the normal position, maybe the internal relay is connected to N. When you have it upside-down it's connected to L. In the city I live in, we don't have L+N but L1+L2+L3. So turning it upside-down wouldn't make a difference with respect to PE (ground)...

/emoticons/default_icon_smile.gif" alt=":-)" /> Yes, I have three wires coming from the meter. Between the wires is 230V. If I had a neutral, L+N would give me 130 Volt. It is uncommon nowadays. A disadvantage is... powerline doesn't work if the adapters are not on the same circuit...

    never heard of that

    in netherland we have (in house) l + n = 230v

    and sometimes l1 +l2 +l3 = 380 volt

    Same here in the UK

I'm using four wallplugs with UK adaptors and they don't "leak"... they do draw a tiny amount of power while listening for messages to repeat etc
