4.030/4.031 seriously ?

Question

Posted

From one of your loyalest fanboys I sincerely ask ... So @FIBARO when is 4.0xx a true stable coming out ???

.. { deleted, 'cos I'm not a whinger } ..

I'm not known for my whinging, but I've spent an entire 12.5 hour day restoring half of the functionality I had in the last beta... It's a fkn joke! Bring on the next releases !

[Reverted to 4.024 Beta, all is well with the world again]

{added cos I LMFAO } ..

If you find yourself on 4.030 and add the hotfix to 4.031 and then you subsequently can't get things working, so you downgrade by restoring 4.024 Beta which worked wonderfully for you .. you end up with .. 4.031 Beta on the screen ! classic !

Kind regards,

Al

alandee, 4.031 is released as a GA not beta. You get flag beta when you recover backup from beta version (we flag it because using backup from beta may give some problems)

Well I got the humour but I think Mr Socha has worked solid since release of 4.030. So probably is missing the subtlety between criticism and a little light hearted irony. I also keep forgetting this is an international forum and for many English is not their first language.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly but if you have upgraded to 4.031 you cannot go to 4.024. You can go to the version shipped with your system and then up to 3.600 and then to 4.030/4.031. As far as I understand it's only the network contents that are restored to something you had in 4.024B but you are actually running HC2 version 4.031. Since you restore a Beta backup the version displayed will be 4.031Beta even if 4.031 is a GA release. So it's not really "classic" but the way it should be. At least that's the way I understand it.

I it wasn't for real I would think Fibaro is an experiment of consumer/marketing psychologists.

How do people reacte and behave in such a consumer disaster:

    - people with a relationship or depending on money they will stay and say it is great

    - ingnore and say it is al great or still have full faith it will be great

    - shout the loudest saying it is bad and seeing nothing is changing and it will never be great. And than these are people leaving or staying. But why are these people staying?? Big question to me. Probably beceause the real other alternative isn't still available

But trust me Fibaro when it will they will be gone. And we all know it wil come. The questions is when?

You're probably right. There is however not much in his post that suggests that he is. I just wanted to explain as the original post could cause a lot of confusion for those who want to understand the upgrade paths and versions displayed.

I think it is an issue with native speakers. A lot of my posts are not as critical of Fibaro as you probably think they are.

Sure, it's possible. I usually consider myself to be able to read and understand English fairly well and after re-reading it several times I still don't see anything in the original post, or what's left of it, suggesting it's a joke. As you say there are issues with non-native readers and it makes sense to clarify. I'm quite sure I understand most of your posts quite well

    To clarify if I may, and apologies for any confusion caused ;

If you upgrade from scratch through 3.600 to 4.030 than you upgrade with the hotfix, then you decide to downgrade via restore to a 4.024 you end up with 4.031 Beta on the screen as your version. All functionality of the 4.024 Beta is retained and restored, just, as advised by Andrew in his post, the version appends Beta to 4.031 to alert that you're not running a stable 4.xxx The image is what you get, that is what you end up with.

To further clarify, "classic" is a term commonly used in Australia ironically, as well as sarcastically .. our opening batsmen is out for a duck .. classic ! you realise some people may not know what a batsman is and may start protesting about the men that dress as bats, .. classic ! you write something slightly sarcastic and ironic and it becomes it's own topic of discussion, .. classic !

If you apply that slant to my original Classic! comment it may make you at least smirk

Subtle sarcasm abound in my posts .. it's what makes me who I am .. but I'll try and keep things more straightforward rather than embellishing my prose with 'Australianisms' !

No it is international and it is great to have an Aussie around for when England win the ashes.

Which you will recognise as irony but I am sure as hell nobody else will.

Rob & Al, I do understand all the linguistic intricacies but it seems you both miss my point which is about the software version after a restore operation.

If you upgrade from scratch through 3.600 to 4.030 than you upgrade with the hotfix, then you decide to downgrade via restore to a 4.024 you end up with 4.031 Beta on the screen as your version. My point is, as I understand it, is that you do NOT retain and restore ALL the functionality of 4.024B with the restore nor do you actually downgrade. What happens is that you restore the CONFIGURATION from your 4.024B installation but NOT the HC2 software version which means that you are still running HC2 software version 4.031 after restoring your 4.024Beta backup. The reason for flagging it as 4.031B is because the restore of a Beta backup may cause problems and NOT because you are not running a stable release. At least this is my understanding and the reason for pointing it out.

That is correct, you restore the settings, VD, scenes and the zwave devices that where on the chip at the moment of backup.

To restore the software version you have to go into recovery and first downgrade to the version it shipped with, than after that you can begin the upgrade process and walk through all stable versions until you reach the one you want to be in, and then you restore the backup for that version, backups made on higher versions can't be used on lower versions.

    Exactly. Thanks.

I do know that my system is now working and quite robust, i did not know that it only restored settings scenes and devices, I do know that a completely clean install on 4.031, was highly unsuccessful for me and my box was very unresponsive, with 503 for a day amongst other things .. I do know that restore to the 4.024 Beta was successful, and that it is doing everything I want it to..

    cheers,

And that, obviously, is what's most important - your box is doing fine and what you want.
