Any official recommendation for us still at 3600?

Question

Posted

Good evening, wondering what is the recomendation from the Fibaro folks to those of us still in 3600. I see at least 2 options,

#1 we upgrade, surely diverse things will fail, then either we rebuild our systems from scratch or we start troubling the Support friends at Fibaro to help us get those things working as they were

#2 we keep on waiting until a trustworthy 4.x is released, with all the identified issues fixed

A bit hesitant to follow #2 fearing the changes introduced with 4.030 might be so large that backwards compatibility is simply not possible and whether now or in the future, we´ll have to face a broken system, and go through rebuilding it or to engage support to fix it. If that´s the case the sooner the better.

Could any of the official voices from Fibaro please share what the recommendation is?

Thanks

Javier

my honest opinion but everyone differs... unless you need the shitty plugins they bundle... do not upgrade yet!

i had to personally reconfigure EVERY SINGLE device for stability! once it show manufacturer + firmware version + parameters on each device my system was stable...

up to you but it might not be a simple click away from success!

Agree..it's working but not so good as 3.6. For the plugins there are other options.

I have send a mail to all my costumers and advise them DO NOT UPGRADE.

I think we need few more versions before the stability is back.

Not official but from a selfish point of view please don't.

Many of us have needed help debugging and this is wasting developer time that would be better spent fixing bugs that are known.

Stay on the current that is better in some ways. If you wait you will get less pain and more pleasure as the bugs will be fixed.

If you have itchy fingers you could spend the time making sure your scenes are efficient as this has been the issue for a few people.

Depends. I stuck on the stable version, had only Fibaro equipment, did no nasty tricks, didn't give the betas a chance and have not really many thing running here and I could update smoothly. So with just some sensors ab best from Fibaro, not running any beta (and never did) and update from 3.590 or 3.600 to 4.031 it may really work. So it does for me.

Nevertheless I would really like to know what's the difference here. Are there some sensors failing, stability issues? Why is it so different to mine?

With your comment which seems to fit my situation and environment (pure Fibaro devices), tempted to just go ahead and update to 4.032.

Is there any preparation to improve chance of success?

Example: Disable all scenes? Disable Alarm settings? Wake all devices up prior to update?

My 2 cents.. if you are not ready to remove-readd reset several devices DO NOT UPGRADE!

I think I need to rebuild all from 0 to have a full working release 4.xxx

After approximately two weeks of reading and checking out bugzilla, finally muster the courage and took the big step forward to upgrade from 3.600 to 4.032 (no beta ever installed).

The update took approximately 10-15 minutes to complete (including download and installation and reboot).

Initial observations:

- Majority of the Fibaro devices were converted fine with Smoke Sensor now showing one known device label as 'Kitchen Smoke Sens' (same as before update) but two slave devices with its sub-ID linked to the smoke sensor.

- One of the FGS211 relay used to control the common bathroom lights did not show the same icon (light bulb) as it was before the update and 'controlled device' parameter changed to "Other" instead of "Lighting" which was before the update.

- Samsung TV plugin does not work with Samsung UA50HU7000KS UHD TV.

Preparation Prior to Update:

1. Create a backup of configuration (marked as 'Stable 3.600 Configuration);

2. Rebooted HC2 to flush out any potential cache or error (same practice I use to update firmware of other devices such as network routers, switches, NAS, Macs (OS X Server), etc);

3. Ensure stability of internet connectivity (to avoid potential corruption).

Conclusion:

After running 4.032 in a pure Fibaro environment for the last 6-8 hours, it does seems pretty ok with only the above bugs, not as bad as others in the forum. The night scenes seem to be working so far.

    Thank you folks for your feedback. I continue monitoring bugzilla and the opinions in the forum, and everyday I´m happier that I decided to stay in 3600.

    Even more, given the results of the 4030 affair, I´m considering if the decisión to go for HC2 was the right one. Looks like the worse of two worlds, the unreliability of an open source/community experiment but with the price of a locked propietary system.

    So if finally I´d need to put a significant number of hours into rebuilding my entire system, which is not small, I´m considering investing those hours to setup an open system that will give me the same (maybe better?) reliability but far more control and at a much lower price.

    Have been snooping the internet for that RaZberry thing and something called OpenRemote. Any experience in the forum using it?

    many thanks

    Just an update on status after 4 days running on 4.032.

    The system is running fine with only the initial issues below still pending support to response.

    - Samsung TV plugin does not work with Samsung UA50HU7000KS UHD TV;

    - Fibaro Smoke Sensor now shows as 3 devices and whether it still works or not is unknown.
