If one day you have to replace the HC2 because it's broken or you get another version, is there a way to get your backup on the new device and just continue using it?

At the moment not...But I think Fibaro support team can do that.

Not sure they will do that or can do that remote..

If it involves sending the device (new and old) to Poland it is fail by design.

So in a few years they will get thousands of HC2 to restore. I hope they are smarter than this.

The HcL has online backup. But , nothing like that for HC.

By the way, did you know that the backup for HC does not even include stuff like custom icons etc...

Yes, wasted hours because of this.

A backup that is not a full backup. Only Fibaro can come up with this. And according to their response they won't fix this.

I am sure it is on the list of things to fix.

You did spot the threads explaining that you can copy the backup files from one HC2 to another HC2. Assuming the USB is not bust that is.

So in essence once everything runs we should make a manual backup of the stick.

    To be honest, then yes.

Of course this depends on level of paranoia, but for me personally the online backup (backup on media, which one is or can switch by system online) is not a backup.

It might help in some instances but you can not substitute another usb. These are tied to the HC2.

If one needs to secure the USB rescue drive, use CloneZilla and just copy the USB stick to another USB stick, or better yet, copy the USB stick to a SATA SSD disk, and mount that SSD into the SATA ports on the motherbord of the HC2 (works for the newer version anyway - I have no reference to the old hardware)... Snappy

You have to be on the same version as the backup to be able to restore. (I haven't tried this solution myself, but read that it should work)

After trying several steps, this one seems to work:

    1. Backup the content on the new Recovery USB on your PC
    2. Restore the backup from the old recovery stick on the new one.
    3. Complete a recovery (see manual)
    4. Upgrade to the latest version
    5. Wait for a while!, this is very important!... when i started the restore immediately it failed again and again. after i waited for a night i was able to successfully restore a recent backup. I noticed that the backup also had a notification about their compability.

I am up and running, this (my own manual) saved me BIG TIME….

@Fibaro, Make it possible for customer to make online (cloud) backup’s please!
So that the recovery procedure can be extended with a cloud based recovery restore

(This time I was lucky that i made a copy of my USB)
