I am thinking of starting a project based on

Please login or register to see this link.

The idea is - have a camera pointing the TV and creating a jpg every 5 seconds. Save the jpg and have color-scan calculate the dominant rgb value in an image. Then just send those to fibaro RGBW that is behind my TV

Has anyone done something similar already?

No, awaiting a package in the mail in march apparently.  Watching the videos at the bottom of the indiegogo site it looks great.  I purchased 2 at 50 dollars each.  Given a Raspberry Pi alone costs 35 dollars that's a great price imo.  Those videos are just filmed with a smartphone or something so I guess it's no video montage which makes me believe that's the quality we'll be getting.  Not bad if u ask me!!

If you have hue lights and XBMC, this is also worth checking:

Hi, yeah the XBMC plugin works nice but I have couple problems with it:

    1. Its only for XBMC, no SAT receiver etc. major problem

    2. Hue Lightstrips come only in 1.6m size - not too big for my 65 inch

    3. They are xpensive

    4. It seems to glow in one color only. While this what you shared earlier seems to have different colors across the screen. Or maybe I am just too tired today

Indeed, the XBMC plugin, I use just to have my normal hue lights react in XBMC.  Zambilight is just like having full Ambilight support on a non Ambilight TV.  The only thing that's a bit finicky to get working is the cable-in support I suppose.  As I'm only using 1 HDMI coming from my amplifier it will be extremely easy to connect I guess.   With that Zambilight you can have TV's connected that are over 60 inch but it will cost a little extra.  I received a mail asking me the TV sizes so I guess they have a little programming to do depending on the size of the TV.

by the way, i wonder how difficult it would be to write something like this XBMC Hue plugin to work with XBMC/Fibaro RGBW module? I dont know anything about writing XBMC modules, hence I ask

I just asked for a refund which the guy says he will do tomorrow.  As Boomx mentioned I had a look at the comments and the guy "making" it does absolutely nothing to prove that it's being made, shipped, working, whatever...  Just all cryptic BS.  Sorry for mentioning this project if this actually is a scam.
