Switching on a sprinkler system depending on weather info?

Hi,

 

I have a Fibaro Relay Switch controlling a sprinkler valve, and I now would like to automate the opening and closing of the valve with a scene if possible. If I have understood the manual correctly I could do this, in the most basic fashion, by scheduling the Relay Switch to switch on and off at certain days/times of the week for instance. But what if I want to go even further and, for example, access some weather data on the internet, and, depending on if it is raining or not on the specific time that the Relay is set to turn on, deciding if it actually will turn on the water?

 

If the scripting capabilities do not allow to access internet information in real time, maybe I could first access this information from a PC and make a small programme that compile a file and place this within our LAN somewhere and THEN have the Fibaro Home Center 2 access this file via the script, and, depending on this information, switch on the relay?

 

Any tips and advice would be welcome and apreciated!

What about using a soul hydrometer connected to the input of an RGBW module. This would be more accurate that using a weather service as I know where I live I have seen it say we have had 15mm of rain and I had not had a drop.

You could run a scene that specifies that sprinklers run on a certain day and time but it aborts if the soil hydrometer says there is enough water in the soil already

    Using a soil hydrometer could be possible. The tricky part with this approach has to do with where to place it so that it will not be affected with the sprinkler system itself. That is, the water from the sprinkler system should not get to the soil hydrometer. In my case this entails digging down rather long cable to get outside the region wich is irrigated by the sprinklers.

     

    So I thought that an easier way would be to get weather information, which in my case, is very granular, thus being enough accurate for my purpose.

     

    Another sollution could be a rain sensor of course, because this would be more easily fitted to a location near the house and still without reach of the sprinkler heads. But I do not know if such rain sensors could be connected to the Fibaro system?

    Thanks for your suggestions. But should I want to rely on weather data from the Internet, would it be possible to use a LUA-script (or some other programmatical way) to get weather information from Internet? Or can LUA-scripts not handle such tasks?
