Devices gone and cannot be in- or excluded again

Question

Posted

A few devices (Fibaro roller shutter, door window sensor and VisonSecurity Motion Sensor) have been gone with update to 4.020 and still cannot be included (or excluded).

E.g. fibaro door/window sensor is just rapidly blinking (reset with magnet is not working).

Though nobody replies in bugtracker (0002336) maybe one of you can help?

Regards

Fritz

PS: I am on 4.035 with HC2

In 4.035, there should be a navigation selection on left to show hidden devices. Check if your devices are hidden and see if you can remove them.

Resetting battery-operated device before excluding from HC2 can be a pain and cause grieve. Just hope you can manage to find the hidden device(s) and purge them from HC2.

    Hi Chaicka,

There are about 40 hidden devices; some grey (seems to indicate they are inoperable?) and some regular.

Can I delete all of them without getting problems? Or is it even a general advise to delete them all?

Don't mess with these devices... For the most part they represent the master of all your visible devices. I've reread Chaicka's remark and I'm pretty certain he wants you to look for a device with the exact same specifications as the one that gives you exclude/include problems. If you can find one, you can try to delete it.

Can I ask you a question? You say you can't exclude the devices... Can you tell us what you do and what you see in the "delete device" dialog box? You see... exclude should always work. I follow this forum closely and I can't remember when that last happened.

    Spot on.

There is a scenario where exclude will not work as intended.

Scenario: A Reset or a change in Mode^ of battery-operated device while still included in HC2. HC2 will no longer be able to communicate with the device yet under some conditions*, the device(s) in HC2 is unable to be remove/delete.

^Some battery-operated device (eg. ZXT-120) has different mode of operation which should be changed only after exclude from HC2.

*Have not gotten down to pinpoint how it happens and how to resolve. Refer to bug 2958 which Fibaro was unable to assist or resolve.

Thank you for reporting back! Ah, yes, I knew what you said here but I was careless in formulating my answer, and I am glad that corrected you me here. I gave incomplete advice to the original poster. Thank you for reminding me that this is a complex business and that I need to be clear in communication... But as long as we communicate I'm sure we'll all benefit

I might have to add something.

I can confirm that if you RESET a device (meaning: you perform the device's specific and correct procedure that erases all configuration from the device) then an exclusion won't do anything. I'm pretty certain that such a device forgets its Z-wave ID (in the same way that an exclusion erases it) and so it can no longer tell the controller what device to remove. I'm am also pretty sure that when you put the controller in exclusion mode, and perform the correct exclusion procedure on your reseted device, The HC2 should display "Removing devices finished" at the top status window. So It detects the exclusion attempt, but it doesn't give you the ID so nothing was deleted from HC. I tested it with a Fibaro door/windows sensor FGK-101

So... If the OP had no succes in "excluding" a device and resorted to a RESET, he now has to try to delete the device with the "X" mark, then refresh the browser page. It can take a minute before it disappears. If it doesn't, we are maybe hitting bug 2958

    I've seen

Please login or register to see this link.

and some hotfxes or even beta's ago I had a similar thing hidden. While I was including and excluding a RGBW controller, all of a sudden I had a un-configured RGBW controller that didn't function and could be deleted in any way. But I was able to include my RGBW again so I ended up with one god and one bad. I haven't reported that in your bug description until now, because I forgot that I had reported it as

Please login or register to see this link.

It happened with firmware 4.024 and the "un-deletable" device disappeared after upgrade to 4.030.

So to summarize it for the OP:

    • When Remotec ZXT-120, Aeon Labs Multi Sensor or Fibaro FGSS-001 Smoke Sensor are changed from battery power to external power or vice versa, you first have to exclude the device, then include it.
    • Exclusion should delete the device from the HC2 and reset the device.
    • If it doesn't work, you may try to reset a device.
    • If you try to exclude a reseted device, which you should try, HC gives only "Removing devices finished" at the top
    • Next, the device has to be removed by using the "X" mark at the top. Refresh the browser from time to time, it can take a minute.
    • If you repeat this after a HC2 reboot, and it still doesn't work, I suggest you mail [email protected]

    Good luck!
