Firstly -  where can I get the profile for wall mounting the HCL controller unit :

It's little further down at "Numerous expansion options". See attached pic.

 

I would like to extend the range of the small antena which comes with HCL. Any suggestions about antennas?

Hi & welcome ..

 I'm going to say either .... it's a standard din mounting rail ... or  ... it's vapourware at this stage ... ( along with the battery yeah ? or is that out now ? )

eitherway, I'd be thinking standard din rail mount if there is a little lip on the underside of your HCL ?

Search the forum for antennas, there have been some discussions, and I don't know HCL, but for the HC2 the standard antennae is generally adequate.

Is there an optimum orientation for the antenna? Vertical or horizontal?

It seems an omission that it is only adustable in one plane. Why was a joint not included?

If the HCL is wall mounted with the cable connections facing down, the antenna cannot be set vertically....

Influence of antenna positioning is the same as in all radio operated communications: signal will be best in a plane perpendicular to the antenna.

Then is it right to say the antenna should be vertical for the best comms with devices at about the same level?

If so a wall mounted HCL operates at a disadvantage due to shortcomings in antenna adjustment - design fail.

In such configurations external antenna is usually needed anyway due to placing controller in metal closets. But you are right that keeping original one may reduce signal quality is such specific conditions.
