Another newbie question:-  What are the devices in the "show hidden" section that look like brown boxes, and how do I use them?

Why do you want to now? What would you like to do?

    Hi

I have devices doing what I want I think,  but I wondered what the zone node devices were.  I can see which devices they are related to as the advanced tab shows a master & slave arrangement. To be honest I don't really understand this side of things yet !

I see. Hmm. You can compare them to hidden files on your computer. The serve a purpose, but they are not "meant to be dealt with". The only exception being devices that you mark as hidden. I'm thinking of "thumbs.db" on a windows pc as a way of comparison. You can research this in detail but it boils down to this: it's a file that speeds up the display of images. You can delete thumbs.db, but it will be recreated so usually it's a bad idea. Now talking of the HC2 hidden devices... they mostly represent the "main wave device". You can see it as a kind of representation of the z-wave chip / main device. You're supposed to interact with slaves and they're not hidden. And you most certainly must not delete anything here. If you do so, you'll have to exclude/include the device again. Other hidden devices ar for example a duplicate of S1 of  the "FGS221 Switch 2x1,5kW EU" and hidden dimmers of a "FGRGBW 441M EU". Like the "thumbs.db" file, there's not always much explaining to do... it's just the way the HC2 represents these devices.
