How do you control a dimmer with REST API?

Question

Posted

I cannot figure out how to control a dimmer with the REST API.

According to documentation the command should be :

POST /api/devices/157/action/setValue

But where should the value be inserted?

Have tried numerous variants without success:

POST /api/devices/157/action/turnOn and turnOff works fine.

I can update some of the properties with a PUT with json data e.g. { "name" : "Ceiling2", "properties": {"userDescription" : "New descr", "value" : "50" }}.

name and userDescription will change but value is not changed.

Please advice how setValue should be used

Best regards

Åke

Found the answer myself after a deep dive into the debugging facilities in Chrome.

To set device 157 to value = 50

I did look there, but the documentation is incomplete. It does not mention how the JSON should be constructed for paramaters to setValue, setParameter etc.

Where the 0 is the value of the dimmer and of course the device ID

Generally you can always use Firebug plugin to your browser to look up all details of communication between browser and device.
