power shortage and modules while HC2 on ups

Question

Posted

Hi,

sometimes I hace a power shortage, so Id like to add ups to HC2 and few ssenzors to keep it running in case of power failure, would it cause an issue to Mash network as only few senzors would be ups powered so the HC2 might start the mesh update and when the power is back on other devices would be "lost" ?

yeah, that could be a problem. A solution would be to have some modules on a separate 24V network in your house which also has a 24V battery system.

We have done this in a customers house and it works fantastic. When the power is out, the modem, HC2, all fibaro smoke sensors (on 24 Volts) and part of the LED lighting (also 24 Volt) in the house still works for a few hours. So that is great for safety and it will not completly offset your z-wave network. Ofcourse the HC2 can still go and update the Mesh network but in practise with so many modules still on it will not happen that fast.

One idea, what If I swith off the polling ? ( Setting to "0" sec ? ) - would that mean HC2 would not try to reconfigure mesh ?

mh, wouldn't know. Maybe, but it might still try to reconfigure when a scene or you try to switch a device on or off and it notices that it is dead... (but it does not do this directly, it can take several hours before it starts to reconfigure the mesh network).

Still I would just use a UPS as sometimes the power outage is only for a few minutes and then it is nice that your HC2 stays on. Also if someone tries to break in, I rather receive a notification and have some dead nodes and a reconfigured mesh network than nothing...

Im having very stable Cofig, all devices working 100% an instantly so I dont see a reason why HC2 would try to reconfigure, still just in case I set it to "0" and put HC2 on UPS. OK, so you see no risk, to switch off the polling and running HC2 on UPS ?  I mean I dont care if some of the powered devices will become dead untill the electricity is back on, my primary reason is the security...
