I have been testing the new Fibaro smoke sensor and while it has lost the option for external power and wired integration it is better in every other way than the original.

My old sensor was prone to reporting a lack of communication irregularly. The new placed next to my original does not.

Burning toast is recorded nicely on the new...the old did not even notice the smoke. I have always been skeptical that the old was trustable when on external power.

Based on a gen5 chip this could be an indication of things to come.

Only thing to look out for is the association groups. 2 and 3 are only for gen5 integration. 4 and 5 for older.

Back on my shopping list rather than the large units I have integrated using universal sensor inputs.

I have also tested the new version last week. It indeed responds way faster in sensitivity level 2. The power supply had the nice option to add stable z-wave mesh routing to your home, but was only interesting for newly build homes. Most people would not use it and it also gave quite some trouble when changing from battery to power supply or the otherway around as it was not clear that the device had to be factory reset.

Good Job on the new version. Also the siren is a lot louder!!

Oh... this make me ever more concerned about the old one.

I have 5-6 of the old units operating on battery power, connected to an external siren by a scene.

I am wondering if this is actually a trustable solution give that its about the safety of my Family???

The old sensor works well if configured correctly (which counts for any smoke sensor), I have my own house full of the 1st version and I am not afraid of anything. The only thing that can be good to do is to set the sensitivity to level 1. The sensor works properly just the sensitivity levels in the new versions software are probably changed. These smoke chambers are almost always the same.

Possible to share the part number and firmware version?

It is always very difficult over here to determine if it is newer revision or older revision cause the stock are often months old even for newer shipments into the country.

Resellers should mark it and sell it as a different version.

Waited a long time for this new smoke detector, and gues what they don't work on HCL! You need v4 firmware which is not available for the HCL.

Reseller should of mark it doesn't work with HCL.

FIBARO = FAKE PROMISES COMPANY, all bla bla bla bla

I suppose you may not be able to answer this but will there eventually be possible to upgrade the hc2 to gen5 (switch the zwave dongle) or do we all have to buy a hypothetical hc3?

On a slightly related note, can 2 gen5 devices communicate in gen5 within a non gen5 network or do we eventually have to exchange all devices to gen5 in order to have all the gen5 benefits?

    CO sensor integrated?

    Posted

no, it was announced a long time ago, but  with certificate questions about the fist smoke sensor I imagine that they want to do it right directly with the Co sensor.
