I've got an RGBW modules that are working ok from the web interface or iPhone app but I'm not sure how to wire up a single momentary switch to give local control.  Currently I have my switch wired to IN1.  This lets me turn on the strip, change the brightness, full power (double click), favourite program (triple click) and turn it off.  Except if it is a colour other than White then only the white part switches off.

Should I common the switch to all inputs?  The manual only shows no switch or separate switch for each colour.

But what result do you expect by controlling all inputs with switches? All possible combinations are listed in the manual.

    I want (with a single momentary switch) to be able to locally switch;

    • on the strip to it's previous colour and brightness.
    • off the strip
    • the strip on to full brightness on all channels  (double click)
    • the strip on to favourite program (triple click)

To change the colour I would use the app, not the local switch.

The manual doesn't show how to wire a single switch in order to achieve this.  In fig7 and  fig9 it shows how to wire 4 switches (1 for each channel).  But there is no wiring description for using a single switch.

Any suggestions on how to wire it / or how to configure it to achieve this would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Ewen

How do you control the brightness with the momentary switch?

    Posted

I did some experimenting over the weekend and wired in some Clipsal momentary switches to I1 and I2. The result was on a single press of switch 1 the corresponding LED colour came on(My case this was green in I1). Pressing switch 1 again turned the LED to OFF. Pressing and holding Switch 1 made the green LED dim. Letting go fixed the brightness at the point I let go. Then pressing on and off several times made the LED come on and off BUT at the last pre-set DIMMED value. The same occurred for Switch 2. To quickly press either switch made the corresponding LED colour goto max brightness. So depending on how quick or how long the switch is held ON produces most of the required operation of each colour channel. Turning on both switches mixed the two colours. Holding ON more colour on one switch than the other simply changed the colour of the LED channels. So I am left to believe that the design is to have 4 Clipsal momentary button switches one for each colour channel and using the afore described technique control the LED manually?

What would be great is to have a wall control  that looks like this:

You can use brightness for similar operation, with single wall switch connected to IN1. Give it a go and see if it suits you.

You can not use this kind of switch in parallel without some modifications.

Thanks, the brightness option worked.  I'd tried it previously but every time I tried to save the setting it would change back to previous setting. On the latest build it works.

One other question.  I have 2 RGBW modules (one on each side of the kitchen); should I wire the switch to both modules in parallel OR wire it to one and associate that module to the other (if so, which group)?

I too am happy with the single momentary switch on I1 works well.

     - Is it possible to modify that switch to work with the RGBW? What modifications need to be done to make it work please?

You can use association in brightness mode or synchronize them with scene (HC2 only).

I am afraid it would require knowledge in electronics and probably depends on a wall controller itself. I do not say it is impossible, some people did something similar (

    So three choices:

    • Synchronise by scene - will give that a try.
    • Association in brightness mode - As I asked in my previous post - Which Group?
    • Wire the switch to both I1 inputs (in parallel) so that one switch controls both modules.  Do you see any issue with doing this?

I'd prefer the wired approach as it ensures the lights can be used even if the controller dies (as mine did).  Possibly a wired approach with a scene to synchronise anything not activated by the switch, e.g. programs and colour selection.

This is what I do with my 2 RGBW modules.. I have a scene that sync's the properties like colour and brightness... works great...

infact, when I did my upgrade to 4.045, the scene from Fibaro UKs site did not work. So this I was told to try this.. and that works just fine.

And works with more then 2 RGBW modules and also for the Zipato bulbs

I had this issue also. Well, not an issue, as my customer had the wifi remote control for his led before, and he knew, that if he switch it off with the wall switch, the wifi control is no longer working (obvious thing right, as you connect the switch before the 12V supply and the LED control module after it). So basically, when he switched for Fibaro, it wasnt issue for him, but I had the feeling it can be fixed.

And I found almost perfect solution - just use S2 input on any dimmer, accociate it with RGBW, or simply use the scenes ativation for it. Works perfect and it is even easier, as you dont have to pull the LED trough the switch, you can basically just plug it in to the wall...

I still dont get it. Do i need 4 switches to control the device? One for Each color (RBGW) ? Or do i only need 1 and can control all colors ? If i only need one, why do they put 4 switches in the manual?

The master/Slave scene works extremely well. Shame it wont work for Phillips Hue as a slave or even a Master then all my holes would be covered!

Ok one switch controlling all stripes works for me.

Using the L1 input with a momentary switch to GND when setting Parameter 14 to BRIGHTNESS mode (this is not default).
