HC can not back up

My HC 4.045, the new Version.  can't Create Backup,why?

 

also can't auto back up.

Contact support on [email protected], we will investigate health of memory stick. I am not able to say anything more without access to files on the controller.

Same thing, only support can investigate such issue with remote connection.

I had support investigating and telling me to send HC2 to Poland for a fix - as this is the only solution they said. But sending HC2 somewhere and then wait for 8 weeks for the return is not an option - especially without having any backup!! 

 

The idea of a backup is that when your hardware breaks you can get a new one (preferably today in the store next door), plug it in and restore the backup. 

 

Is there any plan of changing that backup system soon? Or at least will you be able to fix this remotely?

There are some issues with backups and recovery that we can repair remotely, but when hardware of memory stick is corrupted device has to be send over. There are plans to enable cloud backup (similar to HCL one) but it is only a direction we are looking into, not a ready solution.

Any update on the backup plans...? As my USB backup is broken I am refraining from updating to 4.x... And as my last backup is from Sep 2014 I fear that when sending it in to your support I will loose all my data...

HI I purchased the HCL which is on version 4.041 and have the same issue as you.  Did support sort your issue out? I cannot create a backup, try uploading an new icon because I think its something to do with the ver 4 software.

HC2 backup mechanism is totally different from the one HCL has. First make sure you have Internet connection since it is cloud-based, if it does contact support.

I'm in the same situation: backup doesn't works. Fibaro MUST find a smart solution for the H2C's settings backups and a easy & quick way to move settings from a console to another in case of issues: remove console from home and send it to support for a while IS NOT a solution feasible for the majority of the customers. Please, think that this is a very value-added services that people wants.

Hi

I was in a similar situation (backup was failing after 12 secs). I deleted all old backups from the HC2 (I had just upgraded to 4.x), powered off HC2, connected the USB stick to a Mac, deleted the contents of the "backups" folder. After this I was able to successfully make a new backup

Please contact support if you have problems with creating backup, actions as @rcanetta described may void warranty!

No, problem isn't solved. I've opened a couple of tickets (the first on back-up issue and the second on broken emergency key) but the answer from Support were always the same: send back the H2C to Poland

Actually, the H2C works (well) without Key: I still hope (I don't know how long) that Fibaro will be able to deliver a smart way to do backup on the cloud.

Same problem here, back-up hasn't been working for ages. Replaced the USB-stick of the HC2 with a new one and the same problem occurs.

No sorry about the confusion. I've used the USB-stick of another HC2. Fibaro answered my question about this not working by with letting me know it is impossible to use the USB-stick of another HC2:

 

mail from Roman Schidt / Fibaro on October 12: 

"Each and every Home Center 2 has one assigned USB stick. If it is broken you cannot use USB stick from other HC"
 
Still no working back-up to this day! To be honest I think it's insane that one is no able to do a simple back-up to any other location than the USB-stick on the "premium" version of the Home Center.

Any idea if the H2C can do  the firmware updates without USB-stick? Currently my H2C works without the (damaged) key but I'm not doing any firmware update as I'm too scared about a possible brick..

Hi Daniele, we are in the same boat, take a look at the common problem we have in the last thread related to updates.

 

I did the update with the broken key in and it worked.
