When is Fibaro launching their new controller?

Posted

For now we focus on devices based on new chips, but remember, that old controllers can be upgraded to Z-wave Plus as well, and they will be.

now that is a good update

:-> Good move Fibaro, my "hope level" jumped again, (it has been a while...) When do you expect your working upgrade to HC2 to hit the market?

Am i correct in assuming that the Gen5 controller will be backwards compatible? i.e. be able to support both standards on the basis that the networks might need to be separate or is that too much to ask.

Z-wave Plus is backward compatible hence it will work with gen3 devices as well.

On the other hand, from what I have gatehered:  Gen5-device only works in Gen5-mode if _all_ devices on the netowrk is Gen5.

One single Gen3 device, and the entire network must remain in Gen3

It is only partially true: it will be so if this single device on gen3 will be your controller. Otherwise it will not affect cooperation between other gen5 devices. Also, the version of SDK used in particular devices matters greatly.

Sounds promising for those of us with lots of gen3 products installed.

So to buy a HC2 today is a future proof investment, considering that the chip is replacable with z-wave+ in the future?

Miss my old HC2 and want to come back!

Great, my third HC2 on its way. Been testing some other controllers in between (during 2 years), and I keep coming back

could you please explain why are you returning back to Fibaro? what did you find wrong on other controllers? And why you like Fibaro?

    Thanks for sharing your opinion

First tried the Aeon Labs z-stick with Domoticz, but found it to unreliable. Then I tried Razberry with the same software, worked better. (The software is really good for a small open software project). But I had difficulty getting the scenes working the way I wanted. Then I tried HomeGenie softare, it was stable but didn´t like the interface. OpenHab was to much configuration in text files, not my cup of tea.

Then I tried Vera Edge, hated the interface and didn´t have a iPad app (I have a wall mounted one centrally in the house).

Also I find the inclusion/exclusion of devices to work best in Fibaro.

gen 5 devices that can talk to a gen 3 controller is something compleet differant then using the gen5 capebillity

are there plans to launch a hc2 with hen5 controller or a hc3 with gen5 controller?

akatar, gen 3 chip in HC2 can support the same features as 5 gen - the only difference is that some functions are obligatory with gen 5 (not in gen 3) but they can be implemented without a problem on the older chip.

The only major difference is greater range but even that will be unnoticeable for most of users.

Of course I am not suggesting that there won't be a controller with a new chip in the future but as J. Nowacki said, for now we focus on devices based on new chips.
