When I made a backup of my HC2 configuration I recognized, that I currently have 254 modules for my home automation system.

Is there a limit for the number of possible modules in Fibaro HC2 / Z-Wave system in general?

there is a max of 232 z-wave modules. But I think, and someone should correct me if I am wrong that this means 232 physical z-wave devices. That it does not matter how many subdevices one physical device has.

Physical devices = the ones that show as master = max 232 (some part of the 8 bits address space is reserved). The highest logical ID is not important, My highest ID is 1002 (it's a Virtual device).

Thanks - that´s good to know. Because I do not have so many physical devices, but a lot of 4in1 sensors and virtual devices like Sonos too....

I think the above is theoretical for HC2 because as I went over 130 devices my network started to cause issues last time I tried.

The device ID as pointed out is not important. I went past 3000 a while back.

Thank you for pointing that out... It probably would depend on the kind of device, wouldn't it? And the traffic? And it would be better if all were Z-Wave plus? Would you mind sharing the mix of devices you had at that time (roughly)? My mix is in my signature.

I´m sure you are right. The problem is that as is we know very little about the specifics of our zwave signal traffic on the mesh  to and from HC2, and on the mesh itself. At the moment I tend to think it boils down to: In general we (think) we have an understanding, in the speciics it is speculation and guesswork.

I'm not speculation, nor guessing. The limit of 232 is mentioned in the book "Z-Wave Basics" and on wikipedia:

Also, the fact that the ID's of devices assigned on the HC2 are not limited to 8 bits, was given by Fibaro on this forum. There is no correspondence between Z-Wave node ID and ID.

Got your message, and I have read the books and the theory behind z-wave . My point was to add to what Robmac pointed out - the difference in theory and what we experience in real life - as a working and stable solution for every day use.

That said, I think both you and Robmac are right. Sorry if you offended any of you, that was, and is  not, my intention.

    I see... No offense taken!
