Do NOT change output of dimmer module on switch input just by z-ave command

Maybe it is written somewhere but I haven't found it yet.

Is it possible to control a light via dimmer module (in a 2-wire-connection) and have a switch connected to the dimmer module but disallow to control the light with this switch?

My idea is to use the dimmer for two different things.

The light should be controlled by web/app only and the connected switch should activate/control a scene only.

Is this possible and how can I achieve this?

    Somehow it is not working.

612 is the ID of the dimmer (1). Load is connected to L, N+O are connected together and the wires are going to the light bulb.

Sx and S2 are connected with the momentary switch.

I can control the dimmer via app/web. If I press the switch I can also meassure voltage on S2.

But the LUA or Blockscene is not running (not even starting):

Parameter 14 is set to Momentary switch.

    Parameter 15 is on

    Parameter 41 is enabled.

    What is wrong?

This is a 2-wire setup. So the load should not be connected to L and (N+O) but to N and (N+O). But maybe you meant to say that...

Does the (local) dimming function of S1 work? If sou, does your script say "Triggered"?

If it doesn't... Is "612" the ID of the dimmer SLAVE? It should be! The master doesn't do "sceneActivation".

If you want to measure the voltage on S1 (relative to Sx) you need a voltmeter with extremely high impedance, the 10 mega-ohm of typical digital meters is not high enough to give reliable readings.

I don't know of any device in which you can separate the output from the input. If you come from other home automation systems, this may seem strange. I think the rationale was that a relay has to work, even in the absence of communication.

The closest I could get are these alternatives (I have them in use):

    - A wall controller, like the Z-Wave.me WALLC-S.

    - can do associations or sceneActivation

    - A DIY solution, like using the Fibaro "Universal Binary Sensor" with a miniature power supply. This is somewhat cheaper than buying a dimmer and using that for "sceneActivation" only. The UBS is tiny, but fitting the power supply in a box is a challenge. Can be used outside safely, because the UBS can run at 12 V DC.

    - Using a portable controller, like the AEON Minimote, or a Gen5 Key Fob.

    Hi again

    The dimming works fine.

The script does not say triggered (this was a converted script from block scene to LUA), I have just modified it slightly (removed unnecessary stuff and added debug output).

612 is the ID of the dimmer slave.

(Also the ID comes from the original block scene).

I have connected it exactly like on this diagram:

Please login or register to see this link.

(only difference: I am using only one trigger)

So I think it must work. But it doesn't.

The sceneActivation on Dimmer 2 (other forum entry) is working fine).

I thought so first. but I don't like another battery operated device.

It should be connected to the wall.

Would be a solution (so I could finally use my binary sensor, because I have no usage for it until now). But I hoped I could use the already existing dimmer 1 for this.

My idea was to control the bulb by z-wave only (later I want to replace the one switch trigger by a model with two switches) and use the (other) switch for another thing.

I am curious why the sceneActivation is not working as it should.

Also I think I have done everything like on this post:

Please login or register to see this link.

(S1 is not connected, only S2, but I have tried S1 before and it did not work either).

The switch should be connected right.

Because if I connect it to S1 and disable sceneActivation I can control the light as usual.

Is it because S1 is unused or did I forget an association or did I set any parameter wrong?

Why are there two endpoints on Dimmer 2 but only one endpoint on dimmer 1?

But now I think that I have found the problem (while writing this).

There was no association to the HC2 set.

To be honest I have no idea why they are not set. I haven't changed them.

I use S2 with "sceneActivation" on all of my dimmers.

Dimmer 2 has more endpoints because it's a newer device (and Z-Wave Plus). Also has to do with types of commands sent.

The HC2 needs to be in group 3 of Dimmer 1 and group 1 of Dimmer 2. Otherwise, HC2 gets no status reports.

    Thanks.

And it makes sense of course.

I am just wondering why the associations are missing or were gone.

I think is is resolved (I will check this evening).

(...) I am just wondering why the associations are missing or were gone.(...)

I'm not sure but I've had it too... I think it happened after a certain firmware update. Or a reconfiguration. I think it is uncommon and that makes it one of the last things you're thinking of...

It was because of the missing associations. Whatever...
