hi good evening

I have a problem with fibaro dimmers FGD211 version 2.2,  this problem happened twice first time I thought maybe it’s a faulty dimmer but today happened again. im using dimmable led lights and when an led light burns out or fails to work the dimmer gets stuck stays on all the time makes a buzzing noise and  does not respond via manual switching neither via HCL says no communication even if the circuit is on so far I tried switching mains off and on tried to remove and add also but once removed HCL does not see it in learn mode, I need your help to rectify this problem maybe there is a procedure to reset the dimmer after something like this happens as I have around 10 dimmers combining 60 leds installed in my newly built appartment and its not good that this happens every time and led fails :/  all circuits have fibaro bypass installed too as I had flickering due low load and im using a 2 wire system if it helps any more info just ask

Regards

Please share your findings if you get to the bottom of this. I have two single led spots on two separate circuits that seem to do the same thing. Sometimes they turn on and no matter what I do they will not turn off. I end up taking the bulb out and leaving the light for a day or two. Then when I insert the bulb (which is still on) I can then turn the light off. It has been driving me mad for a good 18 months now.

I have the same problem, i think the load is to small. So the electicity "leaks" mine shows as dead node when this happens. Maby @petergebruers can say anything about this, he knows a lot of electicity.

Yeah, I do know a lot about electricity! It's made of Pixie Dust, Doh! So, don't let the pixies out!

On topic! I don't have that issue, although I have 7 dimmers type FGD211 and a few FGD212.

I have to speculate a bit. I know that some LED drivers cause high inrush current. For the technically inclined, it's either due to their primary capacitance, EMC filtering or lack of inrush current limiting. I do know from experience that a 10 - 20 Watt LED floodlight can make a relay stick. It gets welded in the "on position". Knowing the technology behind Dimmer 1, this kind of difficult load will heat up the device more than lets say a 100 W incandescent bulb. Without reproducing the problem this is all theoretical.

It's probably difficult to test... But if you could... How does the dimmer behave with incandescent light? If it's OK, your LED load is probably too difficult for Dimmer 1.

Again, more from theory than from practical proof, the Dimmer 2 has two advantages. The first is that it has two possible modes, called "leading" edge" and "trailing edge". Don't worry, it usually auto detects what's best. Although the power spec has halved, it is better at driving LED. The second advantage is a double edged sword. It uses different technology, that makes it detect overload conditions and protect itself. If it detects too much current, it switches off so fast that you won't even notice that it was on. So it is very robust. But... if you have a faulty or "overly difficult load", it may not calibrate at all, or appear not to switch on at all. But that means your load is suspect. I have a load that behaves like this, although it says "only" 60 W. It's a 24V power supply, non dimmable, and I especially selected that load because it is difficult!

I'm not sure what to advice. You could try a dimmer 2, but that's a rather expensive experiment. Also bear in mind, Dimmer 1 & 2 bypasses are not compatible. So you might have to by a "Bypass 2". That's probably needed if you have a 2-wire setup. If you have a 3-wire setup, you risk having some glow or flashing light when the dimmer is off, but it depends on lamp type and total power.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a simple test to determine if the load causes this. You can't do it with a multimeter. If the dimmer is in a wall box, you could try if it gets better when it is in free air, to maximize cooling.

hi and thanks for the help at the moment i removed the bypass from all cuircuits and put halogen lamps on and they all work ok i replaced the dimmer with new one aswell .  i had no flickering with leds before, problem comes after an led lamp pops and then dimmer does not respond anymore i open the led lamp and find the capacitor blown :s its to expensive for me to replace to dimmer 2 as i have around 9 dimmers and they where installed about 2 weeks before dimmer 2 came out lol dimmer 1 has no fail safe for short cuircuit i think as i am assuming  that when the led blows its short curcuiting the dimmer thus it fails. im not very technical in electricity  just what im thinking
