Flood Sensor False Alarms

Hello,

 

I've recently set up a Fibaro Flood Sensor with my z-wave hub. It all seems to work fine and if I deliberately trip the sensor (i.e. place it in water), I get messages, which is great. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting at least 1, usually 2 false alarms (i.e. notifications sent to my phone) each day saying that the flood sensor has tripped. 

 

I'm running on battery at the moment. 

 

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing the false alarms?

You are sure that you get info about "water alarm" not about tamper?

Do you use "Notify me" then "About Status Change"? That could explain it. In that case I get random notifications. Please try "About turn on" instead, see if it helps.

Hello,

I have 8 Fibaro Flood Sensors (one in each corner of my rooms).
Everything fine in past (aprox one year).

Yesterday i was for shopping (at 10 minutes far away from home).
Almost done with shopping (basket full), when i got notification from one flood sensor for FLOOD!
I throw the basket (i forgot him), jump to car and run directly home.
My usual route about 10 minutes was 5 minute!

At home everything OK, no any flood, nothing, sensor absolutely dry on my parquet... FALSE ALARM!

 

Honestly this is best scenario in this case... i thinking al the way to by a false alarm.

BUT!!! WHY THIS RUSH!? I dont need free panic.
I was to free shopping. If i was to work, or maybe in vacantion!?
Type of this notification ruin any vacantion...

The setings for all flood sensors always was (in parameter of sensor): "Notify me by push: About turn on"
No chance for something move/shake the sensor, i dont have pets...

Anyway, I dont set tamper notification.
 

Has enyone happened to that!?
How not to happen again!?

PS: when i receve notification (false alert) i forgot to check in mobile app if icon of flood sensor is breached (picture with water drop). Please if anybody got another false alert check if this icon apear and post your feedback. Thx!

Same happened to me with two of four flood sensors after upgrading HC2 to 4.120. This two flood sensors are version 25.25 with parameters template version 245. When they were breached there was no water around them, also they didn't give any sound or LED indications. Only indication was on web GUI interface and mobile application and I get notification and sounder activation with scene.

 

To stop alarm I had to open them and then wake up using B switch. After that I did soft reconfiguration and now I will see.

 

Before this two false alarms I had never false flood alarms before, only real ones.

Yes @Sankotronic,

I have HC2 with 4.120 too. Before this update, no false report from flood sensors. All sensors, like you say, is firmware 25.25 / template 245.

I am very disappointed with this false alert. It is very possible to have another alert and maybe i think is false but in reality to be true... like the joke with Peter, wolf and sheeps...

 

Fibaro please give us your opinion and fix this problem!

I have had false flood sensor alarms in the latest version. Can recall in last year one false flood sensor and one temperature warning where I got fire alarm as sensor believed it was 100 degrees. Sorted itself out after 10 mins or so...

@rss : I recommend you to install an electric water valve at the entrance point in your house and controlled with a Z-Waver relay you could automatically close the water in case of a flood alert. 

Of course  this is a good solution only for those situation when the flood is caused by a water leak from your pipes... If it's from above neighborhood ( if you living into an apartment) it wouldn't help to much ...

Unfortunately i'am in second situation (apartment, building with four floors)... and even if i have electric valve, without neighborhoods, when water flood sensor and i get notification, it is very important to know if it's true or false alert... I want to know very sure if i need to back home for repair the minor damages or i keep my way in my trip or vacation....

 

Because that's why I paid a lot of money... I have 90 sensors. For what!? For doubts!?

). Another false flood alert!

In this case with another flood sensor, not the same like first time, and now fortunately i was in the home at the moment of alert.

 

The fact:

In the home, very close from sensor (about 3meters), i receive flood notification on my phone. No other alert from sensor device (beeping sound or led).

I check my Fibaro mobile app on the phone, flood sensor have flood icon (with drops). On my laptop (local ip connect to HC2) the same icon with flood.

I check location of sensor, no leak, no drops, no flood. My sensor is CLEAN AND DRY!!!!!

 

This in the second false flood alert in less one month:

- First with HC2 - v4.120 (i made soft reconfiguration to this flood sensor e after that)

- Second HC2 - v4.130 (another sensor give me false alert)

 

In the last situation my big luck was to be at home!!! I don't know what is happening (with all Fibaro system!!!!) in the third time if I'm away... I hope to not have this fake in my holiday.

 

FIBARO please fix this! It is very very frustrating! This problem is not a good joke.

 

IF SOMEBODY FROM FIBARO WANT TO KNOW MORE, I CAN TO TELL SERIAL NR. OF SENSORS OR OTHER DETAILS

No replay from administrator. What happening with sensors!?

Can you try a little more respect for your customers (testing on our money).
