Power down scene

Question

Posted

Hello, everybody.

I'm trying to create a scene on my HCL to send me a notification when the power is down.

I have the HCL and the router on a ups so they are still working when the power is down and i tried, for example, to get the notification from a plug but it's not working as it goes down immediatly and i don't capture the power = 0 event.

Do you have any idea how to do this?

Thank you!

Just to help kick start your post. I don´t have the HCL, so take this with a grain of salt. There are principally two routes you could pursue:

  1. The hardware route. (Use a device that both measure power consumption and that it self is capable of itself being powered by a different power source).
  2. The software route. (Use a signal from a capable UPS to tell the HC when it is operating on batteries and not the grid).

and then the hybrid route...

I think of another route. Just set the powerplug to report power measurement values every second or so. If power values are not available send notification. Or set any non battery operated module to report data at short intervals, if data is not reported, send notification. But I am not sure how to implement this in LUA.

    I don't have LUA, it's HCL.

How can i trigger on the absence of the report?

Does your UPS have a contact indicating power is down?

Just connect the contact to eg. a door sensor.

Alternatively you could connect a relay to mains and connect the contact to eg. a door sensor.

The battery operated device will report a change in state even without mains.

The ups doesn't have anything but a battery, unfortunetly.

You can plug in a simple relay (220v) in any outlet and let the relay switch an binary sensor / doorsensor.
