2 devices turns on without any interaction

Question

Posted

Hello,

I don't know how to investigate further...

After the last update of my HC2 to 4.070 I have weird situation.

two of my devices, Roller Shutter and wall outlet turns on sometimes without any rules or any interactions from my side.

Yesterday it turned on twice, att approx 19:00 and approx at 01:30. I have gone through my scenes, but didn't find anything regarding those devices to be on at that time.

I have tried to reconfigure them, so they would receive new device ID, but it didn't help. They still turned on and off.

There are 2 scenes which are interacting with those devices, power outlet should turn on every morning 07:00-09:00 (block scheme) and Roller Shutter responds to "all off" scene (also block scheme, manual run only)

In Event panel I see only that the device was turned on or off, but I don's see who issued the command to do so. Is there any place I can look further?

Would hard reset help?

Any opinion would be appreciated.

I have also had this issue but it existed before 4.0.7

I have seen it with some lights but this never really bothered me.

I have also seen it with 2 outdoor heaters connected to a Heavy Duty Smart Switch (9kw) that is connected to a fibaro relay so it can be controlled from a physical switch. I have found that this switched itself on a few times which isn't good as is controls 2 x 2kw heaters and the outdoor space cannot be seen from the house easily. (I found them on one morning and think it had been running for 12 hrs)

I don't have it scene controlled but checked anyway. I also disabled the relay and the smart switch in the fibaro interface but I have seen them switch on by themselves even after that.

My last task was to disable the power to the area from the utility trip until I could figure out what is going on .....

Any thoughts on what could help appreciated as well

Nearly all issues I've had relate to range! Any devices far away? 2/3 walls between controller and device?

Around 20 meters and 2 walls  from gateway for roller shutter, then power outlet is just across the wall from shutter, but there are a 6 RGBW in between, plus there are another 3 roller shutters and 3 rgbw in the same room. Another thing is that 2 days ago everything worked fine. And I didn't add or reconfigure any device at that time period. I could put another power outlet in between today and optimise network. Will post results tommorow. Thanks for idea.

I'll bite the bullet and say range for sure! You might need a gateway closer to those devices. No matter how hard o tried for reliable mesh on Fibaro I never got it reliable!

Added gateways HCL and its been good since.

Well if this would be the issue, I could move my main gateway in about middle of the house, which in this case will shorten the distance about 6-7 meters. will post an update on this.

I have a similar range with my setup.

I thought all powered nodes in-between the gateway and the node in question created the mesh and helped reach the nodes that are far away. node to node I don't have more than 5m. The nodes that I am talking about are in a cluster (located in a utility box) of 6 powered nodes with another 2 in very close proximity.

Would I need a HCL in that setup ?

Hey I'm no expert but with a gateway I am almost able to have direct communication with controller from each device. I find the mesh sucks! Bad! If I can include a device easy, fast and with no errors from the location I want it to be in then i consider that Fibaro friendly

The thought of moving an included device gives me palpitations!

Plus any device failure to me has very little impact as no other devices rely on it.

By the way, is there a way to tell if a device is communicating through another device or directly?

I have always 'bench' included devices close to the gateway and then moved to the location and haven't had any issues, excluding the one above

I have never 'reconfig' the zwave network after i reposition a device - should I?

I'd also be interested in knowing if a device in connected to gateway or through the mesh .

    As an observation...

I noticed that at the start when I had a small amount of devices the zwave network i had many issues but once I added a critical mass the network was very

stable. I have about 60 powered devices and apart from this one issue I don't have any network stability issues.

Tbh- I'm reluctant to invest in a HCL just to stabilise / fix this. I think my network is well within spec and would like to understand more why devices would gain a mind of their own .....

Ok, it seems I managed to find the problem. By accident I found out that those devices changed state after I turn off lights in one of my rooms (only when I press physical button, not via software). So I went into that switch associacions and ceared all associations it had. Well, actually it didn't have any exept HC2, so I cleared it. Problem gone for now, but all my other switches have it.

So I need an advise, what that association does? I have attached screenshots of both with association (all other switches) and without association (the swich which controlls lights but also turns on unwanted devices if association is in place)

    With association

That association tells you controller the state of the device when it communicates... so if has no tick then your controller will not know what the device is doing if you use the device remote (without using web interface or mobile device)

Well, I did reenable that checkbox yesterday, and so far so good. No more unwanted openings till today. Thanks for your help.
