Question on mixed zWave & zWave Plus network

Hello

does someone knows what happens if you pair a zWave+ device with a zWave (not plus) gateway? I know that zWave+ is backward compatible so it just works, but how? zWave+ is accounted for improved specs (range, speed, battery consumption), but if a zWave+ plus device pairs with non plus gateway/devices, does it lose all the benefits like improved battery performance and range?

I'm wondering if it works like, for example, connecting a gigabit ethernet with a 10/100 rthernet, the protocol just handshake down to the 10/100, so technically the gigabit is wasted.

Found an answer on a couple of site. I was wondering the behaviour of the Aeon Multisensor 6 i have paired with the HC2. It seems that the improved chip of zWave plus reduce the device power consumption, and this effect is independent on the connection, so this benefit is safe. Every other anyway is lost: improved speed, range and the other features are not available with HC2, as the communication protocol, just like ethernet, with mixed devices is just downgraded to the oldest. Which is fair, just I don't understand why basically every zWave on the market is Plus certified and the HC2, despite being among the most expansive by far, is not... that's a pity.

    Sorry but you are wrong

Z-wave and Z-wave plus it is only change of type of certification and can be used on both series of chips 300 and 500 popular know as a z-wave 3 and z-wave 5

Z-wave plus add support of new class like security, notification and some more, and it is adds more device types like UV device type, acceleration device type, scene controller and many more. We adding new class and device types to HC2 so i hope soon we will get Z-wave plus certification on HC2

In your post you wrote about difference in chip s 300 series and 500 series

    series 500

    - reduce the device power consumption - not really true

    - improved speed - yes  for this you need Gataway with series 500 but still you will see some improvements

    - bigger range  - yes but you not lost it device to HC can send frame in 1 node and answer yes will be by 2 nodes  from HC to device

    - other features not really a true, some of them are added in SDK to chip series 300 too like NWI and on HC you got the newest

Probably the reduction in power consumption is derived from faster transmission speed hence battery operated devices need not stay online longer hence saving power. So it is indeed not entirely true that all devices with z-wave plus will end up actually reducing power consumption as compared to non-plus.
