Scene with motion sensor and dimmer have fudged up the dimmer

Question

Posted

I wanted to make a scene for a night light with a motion sensor that triggers my dimmer and sets the value to 20 when breached.

I tried it and it worked but now I can't change the brightjness anymore of the dimmer. When I try to change it it quickly changes back to a low brightness.

I tried to delete the scene but the dimmers behaviour stays the same. It's like the scene put the dimmer into an alarm state.

The purpose of my night light scene was to turn on the light and set it to a certain dim level when someone passed the motion sensor, but after that I wanted my dimmer to behave just like normal.

When the motion sensor first got triggered I got the alarm notification. Can it be that the motion sensor has altered the state of my system to ALARM mode which doesn't let me control things like normal?

Per default, scenes stop when an alarm is active. You can set "Do not allow alarm to stop scene while alarm is running" per scene if you want that scene to keep running. I'm not sure that explains your problem. As long as the alarm is active, you won't be able to modify things either. I'd set your sensor to "Always disarmed" under "Sensor arming conditions". If this doesn't help, can you post some code?

I re-configured the dimmer altogether and re-included it in the network and now the dimmer works as normal but I will try with the non-alarm motion sensor settings today when I get home.

Good. Still trying to find an explanation. This exclude & include changed the device ID... Could it explain why everything works again? If a rogue script was causing this, the script now can't do that anymore. I've heard of "crashed" or "confused" devices but I can say it's rare. I also monitor this forum closely for posts regarding FGD-212 and I haven't heard of it. Mayby that has changed now.

Ok so I set up a new series of scenes after re-configuring the dimmer and after turning off the motion sensor's alarm functionality and putting it in Always disarmed mode the motion sensor now seems to act only as a "dumb" trigger device and does not set off the alarm State or send alerts. I assume that devices are not getting any Z-wave alarm signals either which I believe was the cause of my first problem.

Now the light beatifully turns on when somebody triggers the motion sensor and then turns off after 5 minutes but only in Night mode so its essentially a night light.
