HC2 Zwave Engine Freeze

Question

Posted

Hello,

I have a HomeCenter 2 box since two years.

Since the version 4.0.6, sometimes the Zwave Engine freezes...

I explain : I have one scene which turns on 5 devices (fibaro). This is made with a lua loop (instruction "for" and not "while").

After the end of the scene sometimes the zwave action on devices are ok many seconds after (it can varied between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to have my actions effectly sent to the zwave modules). I have 31 registered devices with a polling time to 300ms.

During this "freeze" time :

  • the interface respond well
  • the cpu and memory are ok
  • any manual action on a device doesn't work (or are queued to the previous freezed actions)

So concretely, sometimes I have a "queue of zwave action" which run with a delay (between 30s and 2minutes).

Any idea about this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Exactly the same issue on latest fw 4.080 here. I first mentioned this happening around 4.07x

Besides, i can easily duplicate this delayed queue just by pressing constantly on-off-on via web gui on any dimmer. Initially it will respond with no delay, but after 10-15 seconds dimmer will stop change from on-off-on and freeze. At this freezed state _no other device_ will act on commands. The whole z-wave network get freezed. Then, after 10-15 seconds freeze, the z-wave devices will receive all commands from the queue and play them very quickly.

Maybe one way : when you make some actions on a zwave device do you make your fibaro:call(X,'action') with the ID of the SLAVE'part or the MASTER ? (both working but maybe the engine prefers the master)

    Thanks.

I have case with my z-wave network being "lazy" sometimes.

The devices does not respond immediately, the registering of the new devices is not completed or impossible.

After some time I noticed that one of my fibaro dimmers (1st gen) is frozen and does not respond to manual operation and to web interface operation.

I have separate circuits for light for each room so when I switched off the circuit of the room with the suspicious dimmer all the rest of the z-wave network was working OK. When I restored power to the affected room all was working fine including the suspicious dimmer. The laziness of z-wave comes back after few days.

I will replace this dimmer tonight as it looks it is faulty and sometimes kills my z-wave network.

You may not have similar case to mine as one device is probably killing the z-wave network. However I wanted to share here my observations.

Note: When I have my z-wave network in "lazy state" I have RAM and CPU usage low (the range of 40-50 % for both).

UPDATE:  After replacement of the dimmer my z-wave still looks to be "lazy".

    I have to investigate more.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I've planned to do few actions in order to try to correct :

    • Make the fibaro:call asynchrones instead of synchronous calls (by using settimeout methods)
    • Use the masters ID of my dimmers in lua scripts instead of the slaves ID

I would like to try to check which modules can fails and freeze the zwave network.

    > Gucio1234 : how have you find the device which freeze sometimes ? by testing case by case or with a log or event log ? (I've tested all my module this weekend and all is working fine manually)

I hesitate to format my HC2 because perhaps the freeze issue is due to all the system upgrades I have done since 2 years.

Is there any way to do this easily ? (without remake all configuration).

    THanks.

I've reported this issue directly to the Fibaro's support and asked in the meantime if there is a way to get engine'logs to try to understand.

I'm waiting a feedback from them...

    Hello,

I have no feedback from the Fibaro's support so I've decided to make a reset and full reinstallation last weeekend of my installation.

Before processing I have exported all variables / scenes / virtual devices and configurations of my physical devices. After I have reseted the fibaro hc2 and reimported all my data (2 days of work).

Since last weekend, I have no freeze!

Please login or register to see this image.

    /emoticons/default_wink.png" alt=";)" srcset="https://forum.fibaro.com/uploads/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> all is working fine, and have no more zwave's freezes.

In my understanding the problem was probably due to a particular device(s) but impossible to say which one. It's really dammage that Fibaro doesn't offer a way to have more logs about zwave or devices (it would allowed me to exclude or include wrong device instead of restarting from scratch). One other thing I have noticed, is that some devices have seen their parameters template changed since the reinstallation (maybe something went wront after an old Fibaro upgrade...)

Hoping you'll find reason and solution without make a full reinstallation.

    Regards, Francois

Good to see it helped you!

According to backup report i have 416 devices. I am not sure i can redo it again. It is not a toy for me.

I deeply regret i select Fibaro as a platform for my home.

The same here..... but other platforms are not always better. I have the problem now with the USB stick, I have to send the device to Poland, what a great architecture of the software...

My HC2 doesn't even restart! I can see it from browser but I cannot run any commands. I click restart, restore, even try to disarm sensors, but nothing happens. It asks for sensors disarm pin, accepts the pin, but sensors remained armed. I cut its power to restart it and after reboot nothing change. This is really wrong FIBARO!!! I cant open my garage door, I cannot even disarm my house from 3 days!!! Does anyone has similar problem?

I'm not sure but it sounds like you are unable to cancel alarm globally. When you go to the alarm panel, are you able to disarm the alarm?

I cannot dissarm the alarm in any way. Not from the alarm pannel, not from the lua scene which send disarm comand to all devices individually, not from browser directly on device, not from iphone app, ipad app. It is really annoying. Everywere it is asching for pin, then accepts the pin because when I tryied one wrong pin he noticed that, but all sensors are still armed.

I hava to add a few sympthoms. When I click the phisical power button it wont reset or reboot. When I keep it pressed more than 10 sec it wont shut down like it was supposed to do. The inly way to restart it is to cut its power. After reboot I receive iphone notification that it has been reboote (I have a lua scene for that), so notifications are working. I did nit change anything in the codes frim 5 months. It just stopped working. When I swhitch on some light in browser it shows that the light is on but actually it isnt. When I use aeon keyfob to open garage door it works but only because it is associated to it. In browser it doesnt show that my door it is opened. I am really mad I chose fibaro for my home and lost almost 1 month to set it up. Please someone knows what could be the problem? I cut the power iff in all my house now hoping that it is some z-wave device that is freezing the system. I will try again in 1 hour.

This is a very long shot... Please try to shut down properly = single click power button, then wait a minute. If it doesn't turn off by that time, something really weird is happening. Anyway, next, cut the power and remove the thumb drive. Then try to boot without it. Because your device is still accessible over the web, it's possible that support ask you to use "teamviewer" to connect to your HC. They have access to logs and tools that are not visible to end users.

Cutting the power of entire house did the trik. All is back to normal now. I am suspecting aeon extender is doing this. I will investgate. Im happy again:))

Do you mean that the Aeonlabs is causing, or solving your problems? I have several aeon extenders, and they cause no problem at all. (they actually work good to my opinion)

    Hi again,

I've probably spoke too soon because the "freezes" are coming back after a full reinstallation 3 weeks ago!

Either the Zwave engine has really a"freeze issue" either one of my devices blocks sometimes the zwave's poiling.

Fibaro doesn't provides any logs about the zwave engine, so it's quiet impossible to understand the cause of these freezes.

I've reported this issue to the Fibaro's support on March 8 - no feedbacks since!!

Anybody has a way to get more logs about the zwave engine activities?

I tried to cut the power of entire house. This did not help.

I think the problem we facing is the result of Z-wave engine optimization done in recent releases.

I wish i have the option to restore both firmware and configuration back to stable (for me) version. But we are missing this option. Fibaro can not fix the problem and has no restore feature either.

My suggestion to those looking for a smart home platform - never choose a system without complete backup feature.
