Question

Morning all

I have a home Center lite and about 10'circuits of lights with a mix of dimmer 1 and 2s. Also I'm aware that some or all or my dimmer 2 are the older crap firmware

I've been slowly coming to logger heads with this system.

I started with the dimmer 1s, brought some rest bulbs (light wells). Tested. Dimms nice. Rolled it out.

Needed more dimmers and had to get the v2. Great I thought. Turns out the v2 don't work with my bulbs. Annoyance.

From reading these forums more I know that they really need leading edge leds. Why isn't this on the docs I have no idea.

Fibario's stance. Buy new bulbs or get different dimmers. Nice.

So what gu10 led bulbs do people recommend. Don't really want to spend loads per bulb if can be helped. (I can't see the difference and this hard to justify).

Also to help others should the community start up a wiki which shows compatability? Fibario are unwilling to announce which bulbs they have tested. Bonkers in my mind. (The cite favouritism which is BS , it's not favouritism it's just what's been tested.)

Any help would really be appreciated.

Hi Matt,

I mainly use the GU10 Led bulbs from Ikea. They cost only € 4,99 and they work perfectly!

Just keep in mind that you might need the Bypass, dependent on your total load on each dimmer

I have the bypasses already thankfully so that should be all good

I have noticed that the Ikea  gu10 led bulbs are Not equal in the electronics .. ie   when dimming down low , some of the bulbs may shut off.

i solved it by replacing the bulbs that shut off.    They also do not dim as far down as i had hoped  ( fibaro dim 1/2 ) .

That's strange.... But I bought a large quantity in one time. I think the all will be from the production-run.

I had 1 bulb that started 2 seconds after the others. I returned it to Ikea and that was no problem.

They are quite easy with returns but you must have the bill and original packaging.

You say "Turns out the v2 don't work with my bulbs." - I want to offer some help but then I'd need to know exactly what that means. Flicker? Shuts down? Limited dimming range? I have all existing firmware releases, so I am surprised the dimmer is "crap" (your words). What does that mean?

Could you please tell us the values of parameters 1,2,5,6,7,8,14,30,31,32,33,34 because they tell a lot about the (auto) calibration.

Are you using 3-wire setup? If you have a 2-wire, is it possible to test a 3-wire setup?

Are these "bypass 1" or "bypass 2"? You shouldn't mix them.

You say "From reading these forums more I know that they really need leading edge leds. Why isn't this on the docs I have no idea.". It's not in the docs because it isn't true. Dimmer 1 can only do leading edge. Dimmer 2 supports leading and trailing. Auto calibrate tries to set the right mode, but parameters can overrule this.

In my personal experience, the IKEA leds can't dim very low... this is, if you compare them with a halogen bulb.

Dimmer 2 is firmware upgradeable and there is newer firmware, but Fibaro hasn't released it yet. They don't offer a timeframe for that, but I think it's better than "not upgradeable".

Hi Peter, thanks for the message

Sadly, the a no go for my bulbs.  The issue is flcikering with the Dimmer 2s.  Tried with both Bypass 1 and 2.

    I have a 3 wire setup.

I sent Fibaro the bulb and the result was a 'no it aint gonna work' so it s a dead end

Also, your right on the firmware side, unless you have the early Dimmer v2s - which have a bug (certain params have to be set to certain numbers to prevent a overall flicker on turn on) and also the early ones are not firmeware updatable.

Sadly all of mine sit under this, so the bug is no fixable also.  Pretty bad in my book.

As a community of Fibaro users we need to setup a 'tried and tested' wiki.  I think ill ask some of my employees to do it over the next week (I own a web company) so that people can categorically know what they are buying will work.  Fibaro refuse to do this, stating favouritism - which is BS - its simply 'tried and tested'

Im going to pass on the IKEAs - mainly as I cant gurarnentee that I can replace them when they die etc.

Im looking t these at the moment:

    Anyone tried?

Evidently, if Fibaro says it's not going to work, then... It's just so very odd: I've been around for a while and I follow all FGD-212 topics and you are the first one to report a LED lamp that is incompatible, full stop. If you have many of these, that is indeed very sad! I suppose if Fibaro has got your lamp, it's no use trying different firmwares, different parameters. Very sad indeed... There are hundreds of LED lamps, and products silently change or get replaced. Bye bye good old days of "the 60 W incandescent bulb". I know about the parameter bug, but I didn't know that this particular firmware isn't upgradeable. But that may be a bit academic, until firmware update functionality gets released.

Have you considered RGB(W) LED strips and RGBW controller? I know it doesn't replace a GU10, just trying to think out of the box...

Well it turns out that any trailing edge LED bulb (period) is less likely to work.

    End of!!!

Why this isnt in the docs, i have no idea - and find that very silly.

We have other bulbs which also do not work (typically different fittings etc).  Same issue, flickering because its leading edge.

I have to say im extremely suprised that Fibaro didnt construct their dimmers to work with trailing edge rather than leading edge (as 99% of LEDs are trailing edge).  Its the same for the bypasses.  Its obvious that the whole market is moving into LEDs thus design it for them (or have a LED dimmer and a 'High Voltage Dimmer'). Would also clean up the requirement for bypasses etc.

For average joe its a annoyance, but when ive brought 300+ bulbs (as they tested ok on the dimmer v1) which are now useless its rather frustrating!!!

Would people be interested in a website which would allow you to contribute and add which bulbs you have tested (and considered good?)

Potentially could sell them through it also?

    Hi Matt,

Why couldn't yo replace an Ikea LED bulb? It's a standard size and model. Perhaps you mean a complete spot with

    build in LED lamp?

These are the Ikea LED GU110 bulbs I use. Be carefull, most Ikea bulbs are NOT dimmable.

They mention it by each type on their site.

    Hi Tricky

The main reason is that there isnt a model number.  From this thread some are saying production lines vary

For that reason it would be harder to know that a replacement is exactly the same as the other 7 in the circuit etc.

im not rubbishing the IKEA ones by any means (and I think ill get a dozen to test with)!!

I have one Fibaro Dimmer2 connected with 8 GU10 bulbs.

I have the follwing lamps connected:

This is a post from Polish service (similar to eBay), however the description (even it is in Polish) and pictures are for your reference.

    I use it without bypass.

NOTE 1  :  The same bulbs I had connected with Fibaro Dimmer 1 and they were flickering. After replacement with Fibary Dimmer 2 they work OK.

NOTE 2  :  These bulbs are sold as warm light. I can say that my personal perception is that they could be qualified as 'warm' however I would say that the light is rather white than yellow.

I use Meagan Dim to Warm 6w GU10s with Dimmer 2's They work perfectly. They producing quite a loud hum/buzz on Dimmer 1's though.

The dim to warm produce a really nice warm candle light when dimmed down, very similar to halogen.

Philips Master work too, but sometimes have a bit of a flicker.
