Outdoor strobe & siren to use with Fibaro 'Alarm' setup

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on here as I am about to join the Fibaro home automation world very soon! The first thing I will need to get setup is an alarm system so I've been looking into that and I've found it more tricky than I expected to find a good strobe/siren. The two closest candidates I've come across so far are:

  • Please login or register to see this link.

     - I've heard iffy reviews about it's loudness and battery charging issues so this option doesn't fill me with confidence, particularly at the very high price tag.
  • Please login or register to see this link.

     - Would have been ideal but for the crazy disclaimer at the end that despite this being termed an 'outdoor' siren, that it shouldn't be directly exposed to sunlight, snow or rain! Not sure where on Earth outdoors is free from all those things.

So apart from these can anyone recommend a good solution? I've been told the best thing to do is use a normal mains powered siren and then a universal sensor to control it with the HC2 which I don't mind doing, but can anyone recommend a good siren to use for that setup?

Thanks in advance!

ABUS SG1650, with Fibaro Double Relais (one for Siren, one for Strobe). There is even enough room to put 12V battery, DC/DC converter, etc.

Thanks tinman - where is this supposed to go? Seems a bit odd shaped to go high up on the front wall of the house where a siren/strobe light normally goes. Would you mind explaining how this would be installed with the Fibaro relays? I don't really know.

the ABUS SG1650 have two connectors (with common GND): Siren and Strobe. As it does need power supply, the easiest way is to:

    - drill a hole in the wall

    - use 3 core wire (at least for: GND, Siren and Strobe. You can capture with Fibaro UBS as well the ABUS tamper, so 3 other cores of wire necessary for that) to connect to ABUS.

    - mount it on the wall

    - inside your house, use Fibaro FGS-222 : connect +12V to FGS-222 "IN" pin, Siren to Q1, Strobe to Q2 and GND to common GND of the ABUS

In Fibaro you have to set that the FGS-222 is being used for "other device", then not responding to any alarms (just in case) and Param 16 to 0 (powered off after power cut). In some countries you will have to set "Auto off" for the Siren (e.g. 20min), so please check local regulation.

First post for me too, just joining the HA community.

I agree with Freddy, that Abus siren just doesn't look right. Neither do the POPP or Fortrezz ones, if I'm honest.

I want to be able to use something which looks like a standard alarm siren, and to be able to put my company logo on the front too.

    Anyone any ideas?

ABUS looks (and is) standard alarm siren ^^ so maybe you should give an example what you looking for.
