Question

I am wondering how this is setup

Please login or register to see this link.

I've tried using google translate to read the site but it's difficult because for some reason it won't let me login.

I downloaded the virtual device, but I can't see how to use it.

Can someone please provide step by step instructions on installation?

thanks in advance.

There is some information on the original thread about enabling push notifications or installing sonus app to fix that.

I'm using on android and it seems to be working.

I can't however figure out how to get the icons working. I've spent the last 1 hour trying to figure it out but can't seem to find the ID of the images. I've checked /ip/api/icons/ and can't see where the icon would be.

Hi Froggle,

after you've uploaded the icons, right click on the icon you want the id of, then use "Copy Picture Address" (I'm using Safari). Open a new tab and paste the URL - you should then see the ID.

Cheers

Alfons

    I would have thought to check this but yes I'm getting the same. When mobile found it is spiking between 5-10%, when not found it spikes up to about 59%.

    I still can't get the images working. I tried to install HC2 toolkit on windows 8 machine and wouldn't work. Managed to get it installed on a windows 7 laptop, it loads but can't connect to the hc2, I get an error message.

    I tried using safari, chrome on both windows and mac to get the code off the image, but all 4 images are showing the same. There doesn't appear to be a unique ID in the url or picture.

    FYI, I also posted code to use in a VD (button) to check mobile (or other) devices on your WLAN.

    Maybe you can use (parts of) it:

    I have used the presence VD multiple times, not only for mobile phones, but also for laptops, storage and other IP devices in my network, to see if they are still on-line.

    What I have noticed is that the VD has a high CPU usages.

    It seems that the loop to detect the device is causing the high CPU usage.

    It was that high,that the HC2 response became slow and I had to remove several VD's

    I did almost the same, but changed it depending on the device.

    For example for a labtop I used

    local maxRetry_Process = 5;
    local scheduler_value = 15;
    local check_wait = 5;

    Idea behind it, is to shutdown my local storage if there is no laptop active, and do a WOL when a laptop comes online.

    my local storage is always on because it streams ....... and gets video from camera's and my server is running on it.

    But i like your thinking

    can't you compine it with home and away and/or sleep

    that when you are home and awake then the script runs for cheking your laptop.

    That is possible. The arp function can be CPU consuming.

    You can try http://[YOUR_HC_IP]/docs/#!/networkDiscovery

    Insert in body: {"body":0}

    Open a second browser to monitor your CPU.

    CPU spikes isn't a problem, when the average is still good. I got spikes 30% max when using the solution in post #27. It should not be used every 10 seconds, just use it in case you really need it. It's not a substitute for ping.

    It's an idea to think about.

    Only issue is, that most of the time, there is someone at home.

    And there is still an other more complicated issue that I need to solve.

    I am working a lot from home, and as soon as I have a VPN connection, I can't access my own systems from my work laptop, so no need to have the storage up and running.

    But at the end of the day at 7pm my work laptop makes an automated back-up to my storage. Even if it's in sleep mode or hybernate, it will wake up, if it's connected to the mains, and will start the back-up. In this cause the storage must start-up fast enough to avoid back-up failures.

    Where are you backup to?

    For my work laptop to my Synology @home.

    Private laptops to my Synology @ home and partly to a storage at a remote location (not cloud)

    A Synology has a function to start up, and shutdown, automatically. Maybe you can start your Synology every weekday at 6.50 PM?

    Another way is to use the Synology Webserver or a TCP communication port. Get the status by using the HC2 function Net.FTcpSocket (TCP) or Net.FHttp (HTTP)

    It will return an error code to use to validate if the Synology is online or not. This is less CPU consuming.
