Power outage scene

Question

Posted

Is there a way to create a scene when the power drops, it sends a push message of a power outage?
Knowing that the HC2 is backup-powered by an UPS.
Also I don't have any wall plugs, only dimmer modules.

I am also interested in having such a scene. Since all modules does not send anything when they lose power and HC keeps last values received from them I don't see a good solution with smart plugs, relays or dimmers in this matter. Even if it is possible to pool module and get error if it is dead due to power outage, disadvantage of this solution is increased traffic in z-wave network and question how frequently to pool data from module? I am not sure if this is even possible.

One solution is with UPS and Synology NAS as done by Lambik here:

But that solution is ok only for people that have UPS connected to Synology NAS.

Another solution is to make small device with relay and universal sensor. As long as there is electricity available relay will keep one state and when it is gone relay will release and universal sensor will send change of state to HC triggering scene. Of course universal sensor power supply should be connected to UPS

Like this it is possible to trigger scene when there is power outage and also when power is back and no need for endless loops and increase of traffic in z-wave network. Will try to make one when I'm back home.

Somewhat related I think: I once was asked if it was possible to detect if a command to a device succeeds and I wrote some demo code for it...
