Geolocation Of familymembers

Question

Posted

I have issues regarding the setup of geolocation.

I have set up the admin account (that I use on my Android smartphone)to update location every 15 minutes and have read a guide where I Can see that the House/Home screen is supposed to have a family section where I should be able to see where the users device is.

But I can only see the Rooms and filters.

Need help please

Best regards

Søren

First you need to go to Configuration and then Access Control and for all users you need to select from drop down menu how often you want HC to check location of mobile phone. It is not advisable to select less than 5 minutes by some users but in fact it doesn't really matter because mobile phone battery will be drained fast anyway as soon as you turn on location services for Fibaro app. If you select "Advanced" from drop down menu then you can enter schedule when HC will request location data from mobile device.

After you do this you still need to turn on location services for Fibaro app on your mobile device otherwise there will be no data retrieved!

When you do all this then after some time you will see Family section with all users but only if you open page "Your house". Then if you click on any member HC will open window with location.

This works for me with Apple devices, for Android I don't know since we don't own not one Android device.

Hello,

Hi!

The Family section did show up after awhile (It did take some time, though) after adding more users. The flag "hasGPS:false" still shows for the Administrator. It seems that only 1 administrator user is not enough to make it work.

So, the solution was to add more users :) It's a bit more cumbersome, but not much. In a sense it is logical. The admin should not need the functionality, only a user. Maybe just clear up the documentation about it.

Thank you,

Rob

Hello,

I apologize, but I do not entirely understand what you want to achieve.

What do you mean by that you want to be able to see where the user's device is? Do you want to see the location of a user who is connected to your network?

Also, can you post a screen shot with the exact section you have in mind?

FIBARO team!

You should really rewrite part of the mobile app that is checking location because it is now draining batteries like hell!! It really does't matter if HC box is even requesting location. Battery drainage is caused by mobile app itself as soon as location services are turned on for Fibaro app!!

No matter if mobile app is running in background or completely closed it is checking location 100% of the time. On my iPhone that location arrow never disappears! No other application is checking location all the time so you should also do something about it.

---- EDIT ----

It seems that it takes quite awhile before the Family shows up, but it finally did.

I was thinking about adding some GPS functionality, too, but have some problems with getting the basics work.

I have setup two different users in HC2, one admin and one "normal" user, both have different logins/passwords and e-mail addresses. I have a Nexus phone (work phone) and an iOS tablet (work tablet as well as Fibaro panel when at home) that I have added to the system and the apps connects fine to Fibaro remotely. Both the Android and iOS app has access right to position data in their respective mobile OS. Both devices show correct GPS coordinates in map programs. Both users are setup to collect GPS position in the HC2 (for testing purposes every 1 minute).

But... when checking the users through the api list: https://[fibaroIP]/api/users, both users have the flag "hasGPS:false". Also, the Family section is not showing. :( I'm running HC2 4.102 beta (but I don't know if this is some user error from my side, or a beta issue). I will test to restart the HC2, but I don't think that should be necessary. (-- Edit -- A restart did not help, the Family panel does not show.)

I know this is an old thread, however I think it is nice for people to know how to get this to work:

1. Enable gps polling on new user, set to 1 minute for testing, 5 minutes for use, expect major battery drain if you leave it on one minute

2. Install fibaro app, either use new fibaro ID in combination with local user in the second step or master ID and local user in the second step

3. Once you have verified that the app is syncing location, leave your house, and I mean take a walk or a drive for a couple of minutes to get multiple locations uploaded to the system.

4. Only after step 3 the family panel will appear and you can track location and use it in scenes properly.

5. To test this, create 2 new notifications in the notification panel 1: arriving 2: leaving. > Create a new scene triggered by user arriving, make it send the email notification to your email address, do the same for leaving with the second notification.

6. Take another walk or drive

7. See email arrive for you leaving and returning

8. Create a bunch of new scenes based on the geolocation feature that you have now successfully set up.

Hello, for me the best service has been FIXgp (www.fixgp.com). I've only been using it for a month, but it has made me happy.

All company workers already have a smartphone, so you just have to download the application on their devices and you can start using it.

It has taken me in a great hurry, the shipments are continuous and in very short time intervals. It also has Excel reports, real-time alerts, geofences, entrances, exits, distance reports in km or miles, time zone, etc. For me it has been very useful, besides that they are continually adding functions to it.

The prices I think are the most affordable on the market.

Try it for free too, when I signed up I included a free device.

The same application serves you to track and has the option to enter as a monitor and you can add several users.

You can monitor it on the web or in the iOS or Android app.

To contract or register, I believe that registration on the web is mandatory.

Unlike Android iOS has a native solution and build in event “when family member in/out home”

you can trigger via http and call for example scene or Qa

Command in iOS bring more useful thing for iOS users

android still doesn’t have IMHO this functionality

some partner devices, connections, services, and features you had working via WWN may not be available on WWGA, such as having your smart light bulbs automatically turn off when you leave your home. These Home/Away status-based features are being developed for WWGA, but won’t be available until early 2020.

Hi there, can you therefore use IOS to trigger scenes ?
