Compatibility of Aeotec Z-wave Devices on Home Centers (HC2 & HCL)

Question

Posted

It is a pity that many of Aeotec Z-wave devices are not tested or found compatible with Fibaro's Home Centers (HC2 and HCL). A strengthening of collaboration between both firms would really benefit consumers as well as help build up stronger Z-wave communities and markets.

    Hello,

Thank you for clarification. I was asking just out of curiosity, because we want to check the demand for certain products' compatibility.

I have to inform you that compatibility and integrity of other manufacturers' products does not lie only in our side. We are doing what is possible to integrate more and more products but we and other manufacturers have to agree on the terms and sometimes it takes a while. Moreover, any updates and improvements have to be consulted beforehand. It is a complicated process, but I can assure you that we are working on integration of as many devices as we can.

Aeotec's products are definitely among the top popular z-wave products list on a global scale since they are fast to roll out new products and redefined designs which consumers want. This is easy to gauge/assess by quantity of which the resellers of home automation/z-wave products are selling.

Other manufacturers are not as complete and some may even exhibit quality issues which is hurting their sales (due to return rate and consumers' confidence/trust to invest further). I do not wish to finger point here as it is not a nice thing to do.

Aeotec and Fibaro are definitely in the top list for its wide range of z-wave products. If both take a step further to collaborate more, improve compatibility and readiness of support for each upcoming product rolling out to market, it is a WIN-WIN for both. If the z-wave manufacturers still do not learn to team up, build business partnership (despite being competitors), soon the entire z-wave market may diminish once other platforms surpass and overcome all the common Home Automation issues/challenges. I see HomeKit to be a big threat within 2 years' time, now that Apple is getting serious about this market segment (iOS 10 comes with 'Home' app which can do a lot more than what HC2 can - proper geofencing, presence-based scheduling, and voice-control).

Just my 2 cents worth of heart-felt thoughts. I am a consumer after all so it won't hurt me much (except some $$$ which can be recovered) and even freelance business is easy to switch and swing towards whoever gains big market share.

Aeon / Aeotech z-wave devices are readily available in Australia & New Zealand.  It would be GREAT to see proper support from Fibaro for the LED RGBW bulb, Smart Switch 6, and Key Fob mini remote.

I have submitted the templates to [email protected] for these devices just last week.

The Smart Switch 6 seems to over-report from the voltage sensor.  It floods the Event Panel with reports of changes in voltage every few seconds.  This can't be good for the HC2 event log, filling up wiht so many events.

    Cheers,

I agree, although the problem fibaro have is the aeon lab products are competitive.

Quality wise - Fibaro still wins for most product categories. Innovative and Speed-to-Market wise - Aeotec wins.

Hence, if both enhance the collaboration and set aside the business competition, I am sure consumers stand to gain and indirectly for both of them too.

    Example:

I use both Fibaro Motion Sensor and Aeotec MultiSensor 6 cause both devices have their pros and cons hence different use-case requires different product. I use the MS6 for aisle or walkway where motion sensing is best installed on false ceiling facing almost vertically down. In short, MS6 is good for narrow field of vision use-case while FGMS001 is good for wide field of vision/higher precision in measurement/long batt life use-cases.

    Hello,

Just out of curiosity, what Aeotec devices would you like to have compatible? But, please be reasonable, I mean the devices that you use every day and part of your system is based on these devices.

    Hi T.Konopka,

I am sure there have been calls within this forum to support various newer series of Aeotec products such as LED Bulb, Smart Switch 6. If you look through the URL I posted, you will be able to spot several products without Home Center listed as compatible.

Consumers are afraid to jump into newer products because of the 'extreme long wait' before Fibaro adds support for newer 3rd party devices. I have been holding back several purchases because of this constant fear of whether it is compatible with Home Center or not, how long is it going to take Fibaro to add support, and how difficult it is to get Fibaro to actually acknowledge there is problem and provide a solution.

I have several units of Aeotec Smart Switch 6 inbound soon. I don't even know if it will work and how long before I can benefit from this investment. Not to mention until today, more than a year, Qubino Flush 1 Relays still do not have device template nor a fix on how Home Center define I2 and I3 inputs as drop down list of Door/Motion/Smoke/Flood/Window sensor but not as on/off switches.

    Hi T. Konopka,

Would be great to get full support for the Aeon smart switch 6. Given that the Fibaro smart switch is not available in Australia (despite having been announced years ago), aeon is the brand for australian customers to rely on for this kind of product.

    Thanks

+1 on the bulb, smart switch 6 and multi sensor 6. Although I must say multisensor6 is getting pretty good, with only the UV missing now. The bulb is the worse with on/off and dimming the only controls available. Please give me the colours!

The multisensor 6 motion sensor is not reliable. I have to put a fibaro motionsensor next to the aeon to get it working.

MS6 should be pretty stable since HC2 4.090. The only two issues I face are: 1. battery-operated, the device randomly becomes dead node even when battery level is rather full; 2. UV sensor does not seem to return anything even when place outdoor expose to direct sunlight. See if yours need to update MS6 to firmware 1.06 or 1.07 (

So did you need to reconfigure the device or did the template just appear?

Template for Aeotec garage door opener would be nice as well.......

The Smart-Switch 6 device/parameter templates seem to be working well. I have two of these added and now I have just completed one scene to automate the powering on/off of reclinable sofa based on whether anyone is at the sofa or not. Cool...

Thank You Fibaro (and T.Konopka) for listening with an open mind and taking actions to move it forward. There are more Aeotec devices still not supported based on inputs from other forumers. Looking forward to more added in next release.

I will answer my own question. You need to reconfigure Smart switch 6 for the templates to show. Nice job Fibaro!! Now if we can get the other Aeotec device template (garage controller, LED bulb and Motion6) that would be great!

A very simple logic - majority of us are here to help ourselves by helping Fibaro to be better, to iron out bugs, to grow more appealing and compatible with others in the market. We are into this investment we made as much as Fibaro is. Hence, collaborate not shooting each other.
